465 to 203 adapter

WOW! That was alot of tech ready for this early in the morning!

Well the 465/208 adapter is just as hard to find around here as the 203 without buying a whole truck. My question is this; could a round 205 adapter be made to fit a 203 case? I have the 8 pattern, so I'd still have to find another adapter, but the round 205 adapters are a little easier to find (or I assume as that was the common combo for the 465).

I'm hellbent on using 10 spline so I dont have to change output/input shafts. My 465 is 10 and currently mated to a 205. The 203 I'm getting is 10, so I can reuse the spline sleeve, but I need to get an adapter to mate the two. I want to see if a local shop can machine a part, but if I'm going to spend $500-600 doing that, I might as well buy a damn truck with one. Couple hundred bucks on eBay doesnt sound like a bad idea for as rare as these things are, so maybe I'll break out the ole CC and get the right part for the job:(

No need to use your existing 10 spline sleeve as the 10 spline 203 is female.

I have an adapter I may sell if you're interested. I need to dig it out and clean it up to see what kind of shape it's in.

Even better!

If you find it and its in usable shape, PM me and we'll talk a deal.

And now I feel like a goober for thinking the 203 had a male input. Guess I didnt read enough, just assumed (and we all know what that does:D).

alright 2 people says they have this adapter, i want 1 of them...i need to know do they make a 32 spline 203 input shaft?

Just offering a little info on adapters for ya. :D

I don't have a SM465 to NP203 adapter ,as they are very rare as you know (only offered in 74 as far as I can tell) ,but I can tell you that the 32 spline SM465 to 32 spline NP208/NP241 adapters are very plentifull (used from 85 to 91 in 1/2 & 3/4 ton trucks Blazers & Suburbans)
& the 32 spline SM465 to 32 spline NP205 adapter (only used in 1 ton trucks from 86 -91) are almost as rare as the SM465to NP203 adapter.

Got this from k30bb468. He also has a few for sale, PM him for more info.

As for the 32 spline 203 input, frizzlefry had the info on a link. All 400/203 combo's used a 32 spline coupling.

No. They don't. You need a very common, long output shaft/32 spline adapter. Then you need an NP203 that was behind a TH400 from the factory.

That is the long output/32 spline shaft adapter. If you have a SM465/NP208 you should already have that.

no i have a 465 to 205 32 spline adapter, it looks similar to the 1 in the pic, long and round, except mine has the transfer case shifter bolt made onto the adapter. i'll get a pic tomorrow.

so i need a 203 from behind a 400 & the 465/203 adapter if i ever plan on a doubler.

This combo will only work if you use ORD's custom 32 spline tailshaft for the 4spd as the 465/203 used a short 10 spline set up.

What year is your 465? I'm assuming '85+ since you have the long 465/205 adapter (which also means you have the long 32 spline tailshaft in your 4spd). If these are the parts you intend to use you can do the following -

Your long tail, 32 spline 4spd + your long style 465/205 adapter + redrill the face of the 203 to fit your adapter + 203 w/ 32 spline input. As Frizzlefry said, any 203 will accept the 32 spline input so you could buy a common (CHEAP) 203, buy the input shaft and swap it in.

In order to use the OE 465/203 adapter you'll need either the OE 10 spline trans tailshaft AND a 10 spline (female) 203 input shaft

or

an ORD custom 32 spline short tailshaft for the 4spd AND a 32 spline (female) 203 input shaft.

The "disadvantage" of using the long tailshaft 4spd set up is the overall length of the assembly which may or may not be a real issue to you.

Here is the holy Grail of adapters and t case, og 465 10 spline 203 case and adapter. NOT FOR SALE:D

Mnstrburbon- Are you running that np203 10-spline input? The input splines on mine are just as worn. I don't know if I want run it, or upgrade to 32-spline.

NWF made those adapters. They too stopped making them because nobody would buy them.

I got the last one for dirt cheap. 60 bucks total, including shipping.

They would put the pieces in a press before welding to prevent warping, and this one slipped.

When I want to use it, I have to grind out the welds, and get a shop to weld in a some new tubing. That's it.

Nice piece.

You have an 85 & earlier 10 spline SM465 with a 10 spline NP205 attached together with the 8 bolt adapter ,racetrack or figure eight bolt style

I have the stock adapter would sell to you $50 plus shiping

Thanks Red 1 for the adapter! One step closer. If my calculations are correct my crawl ratio should be (6.55 x 2 x 2 x 3.73) = 98.

Now all I have to do is convince the Mrs to let me put a Ranger OD in front of all this (I've got a Burb, so I've got room:wink1:). If I leave all the sticks unlabeled, it'd make for good anti theft system:D
