468 BB Chevy - What is this worth?

The 2399 number should be a domed piston. The last 2 numbers after those should be the over bore. 10 is .010 over and so on.

My reading on the suvject says flat top burn more completely and dome tops often have uneven burn or incomplete burn. What do you see as the advantages of the dome postons?

... And DAMN, those possible pistons are $73 each. Without knowing the exact model I'm going to agree these are Speed Pro pistons. The below images show same style numbers as the one in my photo.

Can't wait to see what the crank shaft is.

What are the advantages of keeping the cast iron heads?

I have budgeted for new heads so if top of the line aluminum heads offer an improvement I'll start shopping them

I’d still wait and see what the cam is. This engine probably doesn’t have anything wrong with it that a decent tune up won’t fix

as for the mention on domed pistons, that generally is a reference to the big pop up domes used in the high compression engines. Most of the newer pistons have better flame travel due to being redesigned, and a 10cc bump isn’t a big jump

Truth be told, if I had this gift horse, I’d probably make sure it had a roller cam, and buy a good injection system instead of the heads. You won’t regret it

If money was no option, roller cam, EFI, and Heads...

Agree but I really want to keep it mechanical fuel pump

Meh, the fuel injection benefits are worth it
I am not doubting the benefits and if I wanted to make this a 700 horsepower engine I would probably have to go that route. I'm just stubbornly steadfast I'm keeping it mechanical.

Agreed. I get the idea of keeping it simple but then I start mine with one twist of the key in below freezing temps and know a carb wouldn't do that. Nor does one start as clean when hot with a carb. No transition issues with an accelerator pump leaking or issues from our wonderful ethanol laden fuel clogging up passages in a carb if it sits for any length of time.

It’s more about driveability and maintenance like Zoo said. I switched in 2006. It’s a benefit

Come drive my K5 454 w/Edelbrock Pro-Flo MPFI = throttle response is fawken amazing! I can Rap Rap Rap the engine to jingle bells tune if I want = zero delay :saweet:

Oh and dibs on the 781's if you go aluminum :pimp:
What other equipment is required for that EFI setup? Wouldn't it also require a different intake manifold? Is the tuning done by laptop?

If you have a Samsung, you can tune the Edelbrock with your phone

There are several different brand of EFI options. The good ones will change the intake because they are Multi Port FI, one injector per port and fired sequentially instead of batch injection. The factory setup on the L29 and 8.1 engines aren't even to bad

You would need a baffled tank, electric fuel pump, and return line to the tank. Handful of adapter fittings, fuel regulator

There is a Pro-Flo 4 thread in the injection forum here.. those guys know way more about the new stuff than me.. = old school :pimp1:
Honestly I think the pro-flo setup is the one I would use if I was converting another one. I'm running the oem system on my 8.1 as there isn't much in the way of the pro-flo for it. But for a regular big block the pro flow is the way to go. No laptop required. Self learning.

From following how the others have posted up, there is a little bit of setup, but once you do it's pretty simple from there.
Go read the pro flo thread and see.

with the 8.1 a cross over of bbc and ls the guys i talked with over on edelbrock think you could use a standalone kit for a ls on a 8.1 maybe with the 8.1 guts .
