468 BB Chevy - What is this worth?

Gonna be super tight getting to the back... Of course everyone knows that. I have a 3pm meeting and will try once that is over. What's too bad is I already bought an ORD tube engine mount bracket and had it powder coated... Gonna need to sell that and get the BB version. Grrrrr
Take a pic of the block # with your phone. Then you don’t have to try to get your head back there to see it.

So other than needing new paint, what’s wrong with the BBC @ZombieK5 ?

Total lack of knowledge of what is going on with it. Zero idea when rebuilt, zero idea what is in it. These guys talked me into this BB rebuild. I'd rather rebuild so I know what is in it than go from here with no idea whats going on. I have it budgeted and since I am doing a frame off rebuild of the body I figured I'd rebuild the engine (or buy new).

I would be willing to take it apart inspect and reassemble if it looks good. Then you will know everything about it.

781 HEADS!!!! Nice.... especially if they already have the larger valves installed.

Same as mine :-) Greg do you remember that flow chart you made when I had my Dyno results come back in on my 454.. back in 05-06?
4x4HIGH did my long block assy. board .30 over w/oversized valves and balanced rotating system :pimp: :saweet::burnout:

This one?

IIRC this was your actual chassis dyno pull extrapolated to Flyhweel TQ assuming 30% driveline losses...

OK, given the heads are between 1973 and 1985, where would the block casting number be? The only number I have found so far is the one above the timing chain
My 454 is out of a 74 chevy 2x truck, block # 361954 w/336781 oval port heads. The heads you don't want were called peanut port. Smaller ports shaped like a peanut in the shell, instead of O-val shaped ...

Engine pad numbers
T Tonawanda engine plant
1026 October 26 engine build date
FCJ 454/230hp manual trans

look for the block casting number and date on the flywheel flange.

Looks like it clean inside, thats a good sign!

781’s are as good as production open chamber iron heads get.
sounds like someone did their homework when the engine a
was built. Hopefully they put 2.19/1.88 valves in them.
take a pic of the valve springs from the side.
So far best I could get after removing all the crud. Numbers are raised but some are distorted. Looks like

1036?286

here are my rear wheel numbers to give the original poster an idea of what a built 454 can throw out to the ground:
Old= numbers at the start of the dyno tune
New = numbers after the dyno tune completed

I'm thinking this would be a WIN.

A later model 4 bolt main (yet still a Mark IV) with early 781 heads plus details like the rockers and head bolts could indicate a really nice motor.

Now that you've got us all excited, when do you plan to pull it and look inside?

I have no reason to keep it in the K5. Maybe this weekend or at least start it. Found that the roller rockers are Comp Cams

I couldn't find the CJ suffix code anywhere, but it looks like the timing cover is tin so it's not a gen VI Vortec at least. Those have plastic timing covers.

Plastic timing cover? Never seen one on a gen VI.

if you can get a bore scope / or scope for your phone . look in a plug hole with the piston down and see if there flat / or dome .

LOTS of GREAT parts on this by the looks . money ahead if you tweek this and be better than the 383 power / trq wise in the end .

OK. I'll order the bore scope. Been waiting for an excuse. Gonna drop Xfer case this Wednesday and maybe the 700R4 too. Will probably remove engine on April 18th.

The only thing that comes close in my book is,

10069286 Big Block V8 1990-1991 454, 4 bolt, Mark IV, Short deck

The 10*6*286 are not listed with any other code.

Does this description sound right:

"...10069286 is what they came up with The baddest toughest mk4 ever cast only one rated for 1000 plus HP only one with Siamese cylinders with 3 1" slots machined between cylinders for coolant flow, only one w/ 5/8 shanked main cap bolts"

No idea. That would be a cool find if that is the case. I'll offer $600 now. :D

I’m increasing my offer to $550.
