472 & 500 Cadillac's?

You would have had to meet the guy. I have been called a lair for saying a 454 in a 97 crew cab got 14 mpg towing about 6500 lbs but we ran the numbers way more than once.

I'm not saying he did just relating a story. But trust me it was a bitchen setup. Car had awesome paint and a interior that looked like it was showroom fresh. Engine was so clean you could have eaten off it. Like I said wish I could have taken pics but this was back around '96 or so. Cell phones weren't prevalent let alone ones with cameras

We had a new 78 Eldorado that was a wedding present for my mom from my step dad and it got 20-21 on the hwy and my step dad would let it fly across the delta when we would go visit his folks in Louisiana. He kept a log of everything he did on that car but I forget what it got around town but it wasn't bad. The reason they got so good of milage was old folks driving them and the huge torque made take off easier in fact you did not want to floor it, one of my fondness memories of riding in that car was my mom getting on the main road in traffic she would boil the front tires like crazy, sometimes I think she would do it just to get me to giggle. We had the car from when I was 10 - 16 and I got to drive her some man that car would fly. Dang it guys now I have another car on my list to buy.

I got a 500 cad punched .04" over for sale. Check the classified section.

Ask me anything you want to know. Had BB cads in two Chevy rigs.

I did one in my old 78 suburban. Wasn't impressed. It seems everyone that does one ends up at the same conclusion. Cool if you have nothing better to do. A 454 is a million times smarter than a 500. Yes if you freshen up a high compression version in a relatively stock truck you can get 15 mpg out of it. Just like you can with a freshened up high compression version of 454! They just don'tmake sense in tthe long run.

As someone else said, if you can get one for next to nothing, go ahead and put it in. Otherwise, don't bother.

If you must put one in, the easiest way is with a bop to chevy adapter plate which is cheap. And yes you must do the Eldorado pan unless you have over 6" of lift.

I don't believe the gas mileage claims. Maybe in a car you can get the MPGs that people claim.

I was getting 9 out of my crew cab. Fact of the matter is, our trucks have the aerodynamics of a brick. I drove it for what it was and enjoyed mashing the pedal.

Bit of a cam, and bumped the compression. Not much more done to it. Some port work. It ran great though. You would never have known the truck weighed 7000 lbs. plus.

You can swap the turbo 400 output shaft into a BOP turbo 400 and ditch the tail housing of the BOP turbo 400 and have a BOP 4x4 trans. Standard 6 bolt round pattern output.

I had a midsump pan in mine, with a little pan work, it cleared a custom crossmember respectably and never had any axle interference.
