49" Iroks with a d60 and 14ff

Re: 49\" Iroks with a d60 and 14ff

Last I heard an 49" Irok didn't weigh much more than a 44" tsl so why is it everybody thinks it spells certain death for a 60?

[/ QUOTE ] leverage still exists

Well, someday I will be able to talk from experience on comparing the two. Next set will be 49's on mine.

You will snap axles in the Rockies. Check the latest ed. of Fourwheeler and look into the TTC. The yellow Jeep, JEEPZILLA broke his rockwells at least 3 different times in the entire competition. I remember when the boys at Avalanche Eng. snapped their rear 2.5 ton rockies with 44" TSLs /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

prolly cause stock rocky shafts are only 16 spline and 1.6" in dia. Unless you threw it out of a cargo plane, I bet you wouldn't break an overson engineering 2" 50 spline 4340 shaft in a rockwell...even with 49s /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

are they seriously 50 spline? /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

Re: 49\" Iroks with a d60 and 14ff

50 spline...yes. 2" in diameter...yes. Chromoly forged special metal shite...yes. Custom made spool...yes.

The price is I think, $1500 for the front shafts and spool, BUT you also have to ship them your carrier *read HEAVY* to be machined for the shafts to fit.

I think that I might just try 49s then. But does anyone else have any response to my question about running in low range on the street?

[/ QUOTE ]

You cannot run in low range on the street with front drive flanges. You will destroy your transfer case, NP 205 or not.

Yeah I was thinking about this last night and I thought about that. I think that I read about somehow you can buy a spacer or something that goes in place of the big splined piece in the hub to be "unlocked"?

I hope this place isn't turning into Custom Truck Showcase......

[/ QUOTE ]

Why do you say that? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Because of one post where a guy wants 49s on the street? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif I dont understand why everyone has to hate on the big trucks?!?! /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Re: 49\" Iroks with a d60 and 14ff

I was thinking the exact same thing. My rig is very capable off-road and it is not built for show, it is built to take pounding off-road, but if I can keep it looking nice or make it look even better then I will. Just because I care about how my truck looks does not make it an entry for custom truck showcase.

yeah, 4340 material too. Machined from 6" thick cylinders... bet they ain't cheap. In any case, Ouverson has guys running over 1000hp and 66" tires with no breakage on these axles. 44s would be NO problem. The whole setup is expensive, but seriously, if you can afford to burn $2000 worth of rubber just to "look cool"... you can afford big shafted rockies.

Big shafted rockies would look cheap if you had a D60 with superiors and CTMs and you broke it.

Re: 49\" Iroks with a d60 and 14ff

Thats not exactly what I was talking about. I guess what I was thinking was the "I've got a 83 1/2t stock K10 w/49's, why do I keep breaking axles" I thing tall trucks are cool, as long as they are built right.
