4l60e swap for 700r4?

i did a search and didnt come up with much (not saying much though im a noob)

have a 96 chev 1500 2wd and tranny died. its a street project. it has a 4l60e, but thinking about using a 700- seems easier to build stronger and get a hold of. how much work to do the swap? any other ideas pro's con's i may not have thought about?

The 4l60E is a full electric controlled trans and the 700R4 is not. Sure you can do the swap but when smog time comes around you will fail since you will have a SES light on because of the trans.

is there a way to bypass it without the computer going haywire?

RAZ: The 4l60e IS a 700r4, just computer controlled so no real strength gain. If you want more strenght then you'll want to go with a th400 (no OD) or a 4l80e. The 4l80e is a computer controlled th400 with OD.
