4L80E - Need a quick dimension - !!PICS!!

Not to h-jack,, but what is needed to run a 4L80E in an old truck like my truggy with no electronics at all.

Does someone make an aftermarket kit for the electronics ?

or can it be converted to full manual operation ( which would be my preference ) for off road use....

Yes to both questions....

Search "CompuShift" for an elegant electronic solution....

Manual valve bodies do exist, and I know I've seen discussions here somewhere about them. Not cheap on a 4L80E though.

Why would you go to the trouble of installing an OD on a truggy? Are you really planning to run it down the highway??? :dunno:

Good question,,,I was just wondering if the cases on these are any better than the T-400. I have cracked a few cases at the adapter plate end.

I haven't heard of anyone breaking a case on one of these....
It was just a thought. Is the first gear ratio any better on a 4L vs. T-400?

Same ratios as the TH400.... thought there is a 2.75:1 gear for 1st as a special upgrade.

If you're snapping cases at the mount, you have other issues.... probably a bad mix of rubber and urethane motor/tranny mounts, or an improperly supported xfercase. My guess is that you'd be way ahead $$$-wise to diagnose the cause of the twist that is cracking those TH400s and fix it directly.

The megasquirt fuel injection computer is capable of controlling a 4l60e or 4l80e. It has been done and software has been created, but the required hardware is not available for purchase yet. They have what is called a GPIO (general purpose input output) add on in the works for the megasquirt 2 computer, and with the use of the megashift software, this transmission can be controlled. This is how I plan to control my 4l80e.

The 2.75 gear set works in a both the 400 and the 4L80E.

Agreed on the rest - find out why cases are breaking. Something is definitely causing it...
