4l80E tranns number 2 dead! : EDIT, recommendations for parts?

ok, putting my mind back on this. I have looked at alot of options and decided a manual is out of the question. I like wheeling an auto and I like having some fun racing through the sand so rowing through the gears on a wide ratio trans doesn't fit my needs.

Back to the trans, im now a firm believer that heat killed the trans. That day I got my engine up to 140 a couple times and had to stop and was beating the hell out of the truck and on the rev limiter non stop.

So, to me I need to do two things, 1 take the load off my traans and torque converter, and 2 get the temps down .

I think the solution for taking the load off the tranny is to gain more gearing to do this I am pretty much stuck with a divorced atlas since they do not do a 3 : 1 gear set for the ford 205.

Im going to order the parts for the 4l80 and tackle it. This is where i need input, what brand for the rebuild kit? Truck still runs and drives so hard parts I believe are thus far ok. Trans cooler???

Looking for a decent rebuild kit and some recommendations for affordable upgrades. I know of a a local place for the torque converter I plan to go with already.

Shift kit?? yay / nay??

upgraded deeper pan?? yay/nay??

so far

Hughes Racing makes good kits I Built my TH400 with there components

Two sugestions, Install a 24000 - 26000 BTU transmission cooler in front of the radiator. Disconnect or bypass the factory trans cooler in the radiator, you need all the heat exchange you can get. Next invest in a higher stall ( 2200 - 2400 rpm ) with lockup capability. The higher stall will reduce the load on the transmission while keeping you right foot happy. Don't go cheap make sure the torque converter uses Torrington bearings.
I done the same thing on my turbo 400. Every time I stab the gas on my 81 K20 my b*lls feel like they are being yanked off. Weather I am playing or hauling 2 tons of gravel for my driveway, the transmission has shifted and worked correctly ( for 6 years ).
By the way I had the torque converter made at ACT Performance Products (818 785-7574).

For your trans cooler look at going to this. http://www.pwr-performance.com/cooler.htm

Part # PW02728

We put one of these on the buggy for the KOH race for both engine water and trans. After seeing them, fondling them and then running them I am fully convinced that in a tough application like yours this is the only way to go.

Just remember it's only $$ and they are making more of it everyday.
