For several months now I've been looking for a project 2wd Blazer to build for when my 7 year old son grows up and at the same time teach him to work on it as it gets built over 9-10 years.
Anyways, I've been looking and cant seem to find one for the right price so I was wondering whats involved in swapping the front suspension off a c10 pick-up to a k5, I did a search on this and can't find anything concrete. I've seen a lot of k5 4x4s for sale at decent prices and I'm leaning towards getting one, swapping in a 2wd suspension and going from there.

Has anyone here done this or can give me pointers or ideas, and is it doable?

Give me your opinion/advice..

I would imagine by the time you're done converting (buying a c10 with a good front end) and a k5 and then making it road worthy.. might be about the same. Maybe it's easier to swap a K5 body onto a c10 short bed?

I can pick up a k5 and a c10 rolling chassis for 3000-3500 both depending on condition. I don't know if a k5 body will mate with a c10 frame though. I'm gonna try and do a suspension swap, I was just wondering if anyone here had done it or knew someone who has done it and would give me some advice/pointers. It's been done before and from what I understand it's not that big an issue I just want to get it right the first time..

body swap would be a hundred times easier, all you have to do is mounts qand move rear end forward

Probably the wrong place to ask for that kind of conversion. Probably look into a sport truck site.
You'll have to get a different trans (or tail shaft) the get rid of the T-case with a different driveshaft (length), move the cross member forward and remove the 4x4 shifter and fill the hole to make it complete. You'll still have the wide trans bulge in the center of the floor. The 2wd ones were smaller. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth. Just buy a 2wd off the bat. They're a dime a dozen in Texas.

Did a search on the home page under passenger vehicles with Chevrolet Blazer and found three before I stopped

the k stands for 4 wheel drive wouldnt it be a c?

If you have 4 why would you want 2??? Unless you wanna go fast in the desert, in which case, you should forget the stock 2wd crap.

that's only on trucks...stock 2 wheel drive Blazers are still K5's..still have K5 emblem from the factory.

i dont think body mounts will line up... IIRC one of them has the mounts on the inside of the frame, the other has them on the outside of the frame

the front mounts will line up, the rear one wont. but because he has 2 chassis hell have the the mounts he needs and can relocate them

Looks like nobody here has done this. :( Gonna try a sports truck site for answers. Thanks anyway to all that replied.. :wink1:

been thinkin about doing a 2wd blazer conversion myself. swapping in a 2wd front end cant be all that hard. i would rather do it that way than shortn frame and move mounts and all. plus it will give ya something to do ;) :waytogo:
