I have a 90 blazer with a 5.7 im looking to replace the rear 4x10 speakers with 4x10s from kicker. Anyone else here still have 4x10 in the rear and could possibly show me a picture of their setup. I have a feeling im missing hardware or brackets. I got the truck with the speakers in the rear missing. Also looking for suggestions of fabricated ways to hold 4x10s in the stock location. I had to throw out the original cardboard speaker cover/panel from the interior because it was growing mold on the back. If anyone could show me their replacements on that too. Thanks Guys

When I replaced all of mine, the shop that did the install made a wood plate, covered it in color matching carpet material and installed some 6x9's Supposed to be a better sounding speaker. They are Kickers too. :D

Yeah, throw those 4x10's out and put some bigger speakers in. I had 6.5's in my '89 and they sounded MUCH better than the crappy 4x10's.

wow that looks awesome I dont know why I didnt think of that. I dont plan on keeping the truck im just restoring it and using it to move my tools around and for the winter. So im just going to keep the speakers stock size.

With that particular speaker, the opening had to be opened up just a touch, and the speaker wouldn't have fit anyways without the piece of wood adapter plate thingie. The magnet on this thing is pretty big and comes really close to the exterior body panel surface inside.

They sound awesome though, I was blown away when I had the complete system installed and even before the subs were added, it just amazed me at how much better the sound was just from these two 6x9's and the new stock sized Kicker dash speakers.

yea my passenger dash speaker is taking a crap and it sounds god awful wouldnt be surprised if it was stock

Random thought but I took my '89's stock 4x10's and junked them. I put 6.5's in where the ash trays were in front of the passenger seat and the sound was much better. The cargo compartment and spare tire don't need the sound.

On the same thought, does the speaker also need to be blasting right in your ear as well? That's always annoyed me in other peoples vehicles with after-market stereos when the speakers are placed right up against you somewhere. The sound is supposed to come from around the whole vehicle, not just one speaker blasting in your right or left ear only. :D

The placement of the 4x10, or as in my 6x9's now is actually a pretty decent area, close enough to passengers, without blasting them directly.

Did I read that right? Does the OP have rear panels or not? If not, put some 3/8 plywood in place of the panels and put in whatever size speaker, anywhere you want.

I rarely get the truck out, and rarely have back seat passengers. So I built boxes and covered them in Hurcluliner. My 6x9s are next to the bench seat arm rests. Sounds better for the front seat occupants than if they were in the back.
