5.3 initial start up issues

Was there alot of fuel in the oil?

What I'm getting at here is. Did it hydrolock on fuel due to a effed injector? Or as I have seen a couple of times is the injector driver got stuck in the pcm.

When I pulled the pan it smelled like fuel pretty strong. This swap was all done on a dusty gravel driveway. I am thinking something got into the injector and made it stick.

I think I am screwed on the warranty, everything I've read says it has to be installed at a qualified shop, I don't think my driveway fits that discription. I am going to go talk to my local dealer tomorrow and see what they think.

I was looking at it yesterday trying to figure out a plan and noticed the rod actually poked through the block after it snapped. I'm surprised it didn't make a nastier noise.

It really sucks that a garage cant be reimbursed for the labor as well. Seen it happen to my uncle several times installing "dyno tuned" trannys just to have them puke their guts out 20 miles down the road, and then him fight and fight to get his customer another tranny, and himself paid again for the labor. And this country wonders why it is failing miserably in the workers sector. Nothing says take pride in your work like being forced to remove a defective part that was not your fault, and not even being paid for it.

Having a fuel injector stick wide open does not happen reguraly, but when it does it can happen to any motor (old or new). My experience with GM Goodwrench or the old Target engines made in Mexico has been OK, but I do find that half of them do not have the valves lashed correctly. I always pull the pans and covers on my GM direct replacement engines, and go over every thing from head tourqe to pan pick up clearance, valve lash, damper installation, and you name it. I have found a number of things on these engines that where done half correct, and would not show up immediately, but would show up as a failure sometime down the road.

I got a warranty engine finally. I bought the original through summit and that complicated things a bit. GM did honor the warranty though so even though it took longer than I'd have liked I am not out $3500.
