$5 to whoever tells me what is wrong with my engine!

where is the choke open or closed? it's starting to sound like mine did. /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gifto /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

ok- poop poofs are exhaust noises, sorry for the confusion

lifters came pumped up, i took a pushrod from an old engine and pushed my whole weight on each of them and the plunger did not move noticeably, and from what i understand it should move in about 0.020-0.060" which would not be noticeable to me, and they all smelled very stongly of some sort of hydraulic oil, and i could see a little bit in the hole in the top of the plunger, they smelled quite good if i do say so. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Start with the basics, you need compression, fuel, and spark for an engine to run. Now go pull the number 1 plug and find TDC (top dead center). Make sure that your distributor is installed correctly, (rotor pointing at number 1 wire in cap with the engine at TDC). If everything so far is correct then you need to make sure that the valves are not too tight, you can still have compression even though the valves are too tight so readjust the valves and try starting it again. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

ran for 30 seconds just fine, cut it off due to noise and being in school, this is with choke plate closed

wired choke plate open because electric choke didn't work, i was going to drive it out, when i started it it immediately revved to about 4k and either i cut it off or it cut off, i was in the process of cutting it off if it indeed stopped on it's own. i undid the wire holdling the choke open and tried to start it again, would not start, just try to start a little but not run. has not started since.

fine, i don't know if it idled, i wouldn't let it because it's a new cam, but it revved fine between 2-3 and didn't sound like anything was wrong.

Exactly what I told him.

Timing and plugs are gas fouled.

He told me that the plugs were replaced today.

I still think the timing is WAY the **** out there.

If you really have bosch platinum plugs, I'd get thos eout and put some ACs in it and go from there.

When I got my K30 the engine had Bosch platinums in it and it didn't run for [censored].

i replaced the platinums today with autolites, yes, crappy, but they aren't platinum so it should still be better. all gapped at 0.045

Some engines that weren't designed for platinums won't even run with them installed.

maybe this is way off, but i've been having to keep it hooked up to a battery charger to get it to turn over because of a bad battery, maybe the ignition wire isn't getting enough juice? maybe it's a bad wire, maybe bad coil, maybe bad module. . . SO FRUSTRATING!

They will do that when the plug wires are on wrong , be hard to crank , regardless if the battery is good , or on a charger .

Please disconnect the power wire on your Distributor and try to crank it . It will not hurt to check . I bet it turns over real good . /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

BTW I am only sticking to the ignition because I have had them start up when its all fubar , then not start again , or run and backfire . I went through many trials and tribs too /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Perhaps because your cranking it over and over and the altinator never gets a chance to charge it?
Sometimes engines can be very frustrating. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

Step back and take a deep breath. start over from the beginning. check the timing real close, Charge up the battery fully. double check the valve lash.check the plug wires for correct wiring.Check the spark for intensity. Motors can be a real pain...........you will get it, Just take your time......................................

the spark does look weak- what would be the MOST LIKELY cause in a GM HEI distributor? hot wire? coil? module? thanks and how can i test those?

Put some gas in the tank /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

seriously stay with it. dont give up yet.
maybe I over looked but did you try puttin a little gas down the carb to see if it would kick?
