500 Caddy build

Should've gave those combustion chambers a polishing while the heads were off.

Thought about that real hard. But the heads were already done and I didn't want to screw up the valve job if I slipped. And secondly caddy heads are high nickel cast iron, a real bitch to to polish but looks damn nice when you are done.

There'll always be another time. Nice build so far!

Be careful with that style of fan, I've personally seen the hole it makes in a hood when it flies apart at moderate to high RPMs

Thanks for the heads up. 5 complete engines and 5 bent to hell fans. So thats why the flex a lite replacement. I may do the windstar fan swap later this winter.

Well it runs sweet. 2 twenty minute cycles at 1900~2150 rpm and the cam sould be good to go. I heat cycle it a couple more times and call it good. Throttle response is quick. No leaks and temps and oil pressure is good. Now I'm tired and ready for a shower.

Congrats, these days flat tappet break in runs are scary.
Ya judt gotta use the right oil. Rotella is the only COMMONLY available oil that still has all the anti-wear ingredients(such as zinc). Royal Purple and Joe Gibbs also come to mind. Car Craft did a write up earlier in the year about what's going on with today's oils.:eek1: :eek1:
