Yeah I looked around I have read the tech article. Why is Kurt's b52 the hot setup? What is wrong with the old fashioned way? You guessed it I'm cheap and broke. Why spend the money? Convince me of the benefits. The bracket are not cheaper than some time and some bolts. So tell me oh wise ones of CK5 why buy B-52's? Why not do it the old way?

I just finished doing it the hard way, or the old fashioned way. It works just fine. i didn't want to spend the $$ either plus i didnt have it to spend. The B-52's are nice because of the adjustability with the different holes and using nice new bracketry, but the old fashioned way works just fine too. Either way you still gotta get all those f@#kin rivets out of the old mounts:mad:

For me, the choice was simple. B-52s, my body mounts were in real sad shape and needed to replaced no matter what. They were rusty and paper-thin around the body bushing area. Plus with the b-52s in the forward-most position, the front axle is moved an additional 1/2" over the traditional way

Nothing wrong with the old fashioned way at all.

There are some distinct differences though.

1. Your old hangers flipped side to side are still meant for a 3.5" wide assembly where as the b52 kit addresses the width difference. Fix for the factory hangers is easy.

2. The old fashioned way leaves you but one place to hang the spring which for most is fine. Some however do not want to move the other hanger up in the frame. With the B52's you aren't required to move this piece.

3. For some folks some of the benefit of the b52 is simply the beefier built hanger. Something that can take a little more abuse than the stamped out factory piece.

In the end its personal preference and I've talked my fair share of customers out of this setup simply cause it isn't what they needed.

Another two reasons.
One, you don't have drill holes in your frame.
Two, you could still use you factory bumper.

It’s sitting on the garage floor. My frame is so tweaked I couldn't get any holes to line up. I'm working on getting another frame, so I don't really care if this frame getting any worse.

So if I use the B-52's I will not have to move the rear shacke mount? How far forward will the axle move?

Thanks for the input so far guys.

The B-52 has quite a few mounting options. How mine is set up, I have a slight rearward angle of the shackle and the axle is moved forward 1". I like the set up. Even with the front of the fenders cut off, my 33" rub the fenders evenly front and back. With a generic 4" lift, it would've rubbed on and bashed in the back of the fenders only.

I believe we had the shop rig set up with the bracket forward and the spring in the 3rd hole. Axle wasn't more than 1" forward. Maybe less.

We did not move the shackle eye hanger up in the frame at all.

How far forward can the axle move with crossover and the rear shackle in the original location?

so can you leave the original shackle eye hanger and install the B52s if you don't plan on moving the shackle eye hanger?

You can use 56s and move the axle forward the 2" of 52s and not move the rear eye hanger. This will work with B52s or the " 'Ol fashioned way". If you need more distance forward you can put a zero rate on and get another 1.5" but then you run the chance of you pitman arm contacting your ubolts if you get flexed out. For what you guys do down there it should be just fine.

Thanks Ira. Just another option to consider. What kind of axle wrap can I expect from 56's up front?

The gumbo down here is in short supply. The place we went is closed. I will be trailering the k5 to other areas with various terrain. Some rock some trail and a little mud.

Yes, provided you use the appropriate position for hanging the springs in the front. You can still have a good shackle angle. This is considering 52 inch rear springs. You do not have to move the hanger at the rear of the spring forward.
