550 on a 30 degree ramp pretty respectable?

Looks like 52s, and 63s.

There is more to flex than longer springs though.

Like driveshafts. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Lets see, Im running a basically stock shaft up front on mine problem free, and my dad is running a 1410 CV in the back without any problems. People make a big deal about driveshafts when really there are much more extreme shafts out there. Hell ive seen jeeps with literally 1.5' long rear shafts. My front one is around 3 feet im geussing, hell my stock slip has enough spline engagement to work, and plenty of angle to the dangle after you modify the stops on the stock CV.

My front shaft is much shorter than yours, more like 27", that's why I had problems.

Jeeps might have super short rear shafts but most of them have real long front shafts. Naturally the engine is always higher in the frame than the transfer case which reduces the operating angle of a rear driveshaft to begin with. This is of course not even mentioning that a rear shaft doesn't move anywhere near as much as a front one does anyway with the diff being offset and all.

As to modifying the stops on the stock CV, you mean removing them, and yes it does work, I did it for years.

Just keep an eye on your angles. With automatic transmissions you'll probably never see the kind of problems I did, but it sure sucks to have angles like I do.

Is your axle moved forward at all? That helped a lot with my angles, but then again my truck is very low for the amount of suspension travel it has.

I was impressed for stock rear shock mounts, myself.

Could be flexier for sure... granted this is not the same ramp etc... but my DD looks to flex about as well. Nothing special here except the regular ol' 4" IFS lift.

Yes, my axle is moved forward 1.5". It still doesn't help having the shortest transmission/t case setup that Chevy ever made combined with long spring shackles. My angles just suck, and they're going to suck but Jesse's new HAD will take care of that when I get it.

If if an IFS shortbox chevy will go 65+" up a 30* ramp, I'd be real shocked, but I'm sure it's possible. Stock super soft 63s probably help quite a bit. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Yeah, if only the front flexed as well.. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif Yes, the back does flex good, i have to chain it just to get the rear tires off the ground w/ my 48" hi-lift. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

Needless to say, i'll be going with a 60" for my K5 when I get it built. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I think you could make it a lot better, my 75 did fine, but the wheel base is different that yours,

Tim,

Don't get too concerned about having a super flexy rig. It's sometimes way overated. Just build it for what you want to do with it. Too much flex in the mud is not a good thing, not enough flex in the rocks is a really bad thing. It's all about how you are going to wheel it.

Remember, that when you start messing with flexing a rig out it creates a whole group of other issues, brake lines, steering binding, axle wrap, driveshaft lenghts, wheels stuffing into fenders, ect.....

Trust me I know, been there done that, still doing that!

BTW, that's my 1st Gen Blazer on the ramp that Harley posted up. Mines purpose built, like Harley said. I'm not a big believer in the ramp, but I got goated into driving up on it. The only reason I did drive up the ramp more, is they could not hold the stupid thing from slipping on the pavement. Pavement pounding at it's best.

Here are some trail pictures of flex

Shane's old rig /forums/images/graemlins/bow.gif
Damn, too bad he moved away and sold his K5, He was a blast to wheel with, and the truck did really good.

Just an unrelated sentimental rambling...

Ever since I removed 4" of lift and bought my truck down and cut the fenders, I have enjoyed the center of gravity that came along with it.

I need more flex though. Every time I lift a tire, that woozy feeling that used to be associated with my rig because it was so tall returns.

I really don't have any intentions of putting my truck in the mud ever again if I can avoid it, and I want to continue more and more towards a hardcore crawler because that's about the only thing that I find fun anymore.

I'm definitely not trying to build a ramp champ, but I would like to work some of the issues my suspension has out so I can have some more flex. The front springs are too stiff and it rides like crap, and in the rear once I eliminate the shocks binding me up I will be able to work from there.

I agree with you that ramp champs are over rated, but lifting a tire on the trail sucks ass.

If you plan on running trails around the midwest, you're going to have to put in mud at some point.

I can't think of any trails around that don't have mud sections in them, except maybe some of the short rock sections in the quarry at the Badlands.

Some mud is ok, but I still want to continue to have the flex for trails.

I nearly rolled a few weeks ago on the GREEN trail simply because my tire fell into a crack and I picked up a rear tire real bad. I was dumb and I listened to the spotter at the bottom of the hill that apparently didn't know what the [darn] he was doing, but either way, I definitely need to loosen up my suspension a bit, I think it will help with stability.

I'm thinking go down anther inch or two, along with re-working everything for more down travel.

come on Tim, even i can out flex you.... /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

i dig the O.D. paint though.... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I'll toss mine in too (time to the pond pics agian)

pondflex.jpg

can't do that with the 35's now though /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

4" BDS front and rear springs, set of zerorates in the rear
sway bar was disconnected (its off now), the front flexed much better than the rear. One of these days I'll toss on a shackle flip mounted a couple inches back and 56's (short side forward) and use a zerorate up front to push the axle forward and inch, probley do a bit of trimming and make it the DD/ramp whore /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

I can park the truck like this for a few minutes while its running (notice the rear shackle)

I love fuel injection /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ok time for the above three to try to follow me on the trail. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I'll follow down a trail . Without anything special except shorter bumpstops , disconnects , and 4 inch kit rear shocks in the stock mounts , and with supposedly hard Pro Comp springs , my body stays nice and flat most of the time . The rear is stock springs with a shackle flip , I have yet to remove the pack clamps . Flexing is cool . In this pic my tires are on the ground , so it couldn't flex anymore , and it was right after my lift . Now that I am broken in , the front tires will smack the inner fenders /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif
