57 Pontiac "Zero Fox"

Had a local buyer that wanted it for under 10K. They were going to come today. Whilst they were dithering an enthusiastic dude from Saskatoon called me, with his mouth, and told me my price was actually a little low...and that he'd be happy to pay full ask price if I could hold it a few days. Money talks, bullshit walks. Minutes later there was $500 in my bank from him, and the first dude got the bad news.

For perspective, I bought this quad in May 2018 for $11,500.
You got $400 worth of entertainment out of it (minus inflation)
Best part is it squares you up and leave some in the budget for parts

I ate the interest on the loan, but still sold it for more than I paid for it. I did better than average, and Dean was right. I thought I was pricing it way high, but I went with what Dean said I could get for it...and he was right. :saweet:

I had three awesome trips with it in BC before Covid turned the world stupid...i think I can get more fun out of the '57 though, and use it more often.

Lots of momentum towards something you can drive to work on a nice Saturday, or take Mrs tRusty to the drive-in

If nothing else, you're getting lots of bench racing out of it

Yeah I am getting that too with my big rig, but I realized our dollar was worth a lot more then so it didn't appreciate, the dollar lost value and now they need more dollars to buy it from you but you can't do as much with that amount.
Although 12k should do quite a bit on the car.

I agree w Rene’ on not waiting….IF financially you can make it happen! You can see many porjects in this forum sitting for years, and I can attest, ambition level goes down the older you get. I’ve had brake and suspension upgrades for my Vette, sitting and waiting for good timing (I’m afraid to start taking it apart for fear of it getting put on the back burner, and I also, want to race some more this year before taking it apart). I also have the Cummins swap CC dually project that has been mothballed for way to long. So IF possible take the plunge NOW!

I’ll have to set up a build thread on the Nomad so don’t keep plugging up Rene’s Poncho build.

Dad has the money to do whatever he wants with the car. Full blown frame off resto to just getting it moving. We literally have ‘57 parts all over the place, with a lot of NOS parts. I’ve joked but we could probably do another car if we had a shell and rolling chassis.

I could probably finance the stuff we need from selling some of the extra parts we have. I mean who needs 4 extra wonderbar radios? It’s no that he has two of something it’s 4 or more.

He’s hoarded this stuff for decades and like some he finds it hard to let go. Fearing we might sell something we need.

I’ve got some mental hurdles to get over with the big guy and if he gets cranky about it I’m just going to get it done and ask for permission later. He will thank me when we are banging gears in it finally.

Absolutely!
sorry for the misdirection Rene’, bit I think we all know we ain't getting any younger! I’m glad you lit a fire under our ass to get a move on projects if you can! I look forward to your thread and a few others for motivation!

I might have to hit you guys up for a pair of wiper arms if you have any spares? I don't plan on much wet weather driving, but it could happen and Rain X is a poor substitute IMO. also I will need wipers to pass inspection here.

There is a distinct possibility we do have some. Where they are at is a good question. I’ve got a good amount of the small stuff organized and sorted into boxes. I’ll have to check.

I’m guessing that your car had vacuum wipers?

My car HAS the vacuum wipers. I do have a factory electric wiper motor here from a '57 Chev that I scored for $40 at a boneyard a few years ago. It would need going through, but I believe it'd be OK. I will probably keep the vac wipers for as much wet weather driving the car will ever see. Hopefully only during Drag Week or similar events.

I’ve been in the Nomad when we got caught is a torrential downpour. Even with the electric wiper motor, the RainX actually did a better job. On high it couldn’t keep up. Dad shut the wipers off as they were just not clearing the glass at all. Pretty funny.

But you need something to pass the safety inspection. I’ll have to do some digging.

Rain gear makes a better system that deletes the cable/pulley madness from under the dash for a modern link style system. Pricey though.

Nomad talk can shift over to its own thread.
