After considering just about every option there is for a motor swap I think I've narrowed it down to a 454 or a 6.0. I can get a 6.0 with around 70000 for 1000 bucks then maybe another 500 to swap it in? I was wondering why I dont see many 6.0s on here it seems to be a much better option compared to the older tbi and carb'd stuff and its bigger than a 5.3. I wanted to do a cummins but I decided against having 1100 pounds up front and risking my frame cracking even though Id love to have one. I saw Sean uses 6.0s for almost everything.

Just trying to decide on a motor for this summer because I cant stand seeing my truck without a motor in it any longer!

Just wanted some input.

when my 6.2 ****s the bed il be doing a 6.0 swap. damn thing wont die tho! ehh i probably just jinxed myself... ****...

I think the numbers for the LS engine are about right but the numbers to swap it in more than $500. Probably closer to 1K as well with adapters, tranny connections and driveline issues. From what i have read its the little things that nickle and dime you to death

I think your rite, the adapter and flexplate to my 700r4 is 150. Then Id need a tbi fuel tank, sending unit, electric fuel pump etc Id still do it for 2000 though. Im going to go read about it.

Just checked that out very helpful. It looks like Ill be around 2200-2500 by the time Im done, including driveshaft work and things I havent read yet.

As soon as my 6.2L kicks the bucket I'll be going to a 6.0L as well. Definitely a much better engine than the old school big blocks, IMO!

Unless I can get my grimy little hands on a Duramax ;)

$2500 sounds about right. I chose the 5.3 because I got a good deal, better than what a 6.0 would of cost. And I only wanted around 300hp for gas milage and to keep from snaping my 1/2 ton axles.

If you are using a auto trans it is cheaper, Just make sure when you get the engine that it comes with the starter, PCM, wiring and front accessories. The cost to acquire those can be pretty high. If you get a membership here i have a write up on the swap that goes into a bunch of detail of what it took. Also look at my build thread in my sig there is plenty of pics of the swap

A buddy of mine just picked up a 6.0 LQ9 for dirt cheap...with trans and all wiring and brackets.

I bought a 5.3 with 4000 miles on it in case I found a Tahoe or truck that needed an engine.....but cant seem to find one.
