6.0 vs 7.3

your point is?? my truck has it from the factory.... hmm oh well

guess the fact it isnt available from the factory should stop it from happening, attention everyone with fuel injection on a chevy truck older than 87, please remove your efi and return to carburetors...:wink1: :D

You said to buy a Dodge with a Cummins 5.9 equipped with an Allison. This combo does not exist from the manufacturer. Never has, doesn't currently, and likely never will. End of story.

You have an Allison behind your 5.9 in a Freightliner, which is a completely different application, brand, and model....dandy for you.:p:

lol the point is, anything can be done with enough engineering, and he isnt buying a new truck anyways, so buy a dodge with a cummins, buy an allison and the wiring/controller, and DO IT, that would give me justification to do the same in my chebby lol..

And spend all that money for an extra gear and a "famous" name plate?

It doesn't get any better than modified Dodge autos. An automatic is an automatic regardless of it's name. An Allison is nothing special at all, and is put on a platform because they make trans for heavy equipment. BFD....

The heart of an auto is the torque converter... There is 10 times the R&D with the Dodge autos than the Allisons. Give me a tight 91% triple disk billet converter in front of a fresh 47RE Dodge trans with a modifiied valve body and anyone that cares can keep any Allison that has nothing more than a looser converter and an extra gear....

With your worktruck, the Allison is the only auto available, so that name actually means something and stands out. In a light duty app. with many different trans options, it's nothing more than a nameplate...

The 6.0 is a pos. The 7.3 is a pretty decent engine but I like the 6.5td a lot better which is what I bought and have been totally happy with it. Parts are a lot cheaper for the Chevy too.

says the man with the DETROIT diesel avatar... :surepal: :screwy: :screwy: the day i see a 6.5 outperform a 6.0 or 7.3 i still wont believe you...

Go with a 7.3 or a NEW 6.0. Our 6.0 is an '04 and has had it's fair share of issues. Basically, in two years, I'll have the option of buying a pristine 6.0 in a well cared for truck at a "family friendly" price. I'm gonna pass, that should be testament enough.

bought it

i found and bought a 03 ford f350 with a 7.3 and it has a 6.5 inch lift and 37 ssr only has 24,000 miles got it for $27900 has all banks upgrades weld rims nice truck all leather

Um, asshole where did I say exactly that a 6.5td would out perform either?

Ford-vs-Chevy - Who Cares?

When it comes to shear stupid brunt nothing beats a Cummins 5.9. I have two of them - a 95 2wd I use to haul my camper and pull my boat with, and an '02 short bed I use for work. The 95 has 160,000 and has had TWO underhood repairs in 11 years. A water pump and a throttle retainer clip. You change the oil and fuel filters and drive these things!

If I had to pick between the 7.3 and the 6.0 I'd go with the 7.3. They could out pull me on the hard grades most any time, but then I'd pass em at the fuel pump...:D

I've heard zero good about the 6.0's. Two guys I know have them and both have had MAJOR problems - one has a complete new engine and tranny because the dealer had their fill of the first ones. My understanding is Ford is going to abandon the 6.0 in '08 but I could be wrong.

they ARE abandoning the 6.0 for a 6.4tt, but its a pos too, already pulled from a few select dealers...

I take it this stands for 6.4 litre twin turbo?
:wink1:

yes it is a twin turbo but I didn't think it was going to be available until later in '07.

It isn't even available until 2008 models... It can't have been pulled from select dealers, its not AT any dealers yet....

The 6.4TT motor will be a winner. Nearly guaranteed. Dodge's new 6 spd auto behind the Cummins will also prove to be a big winner.

Why do I make such bold claims like these? Because their reps. are riding on it....
