6.0L swap #2

I haven't searched around, but does anyone have torque curves for the 6.0? I have thought about stuffing one in my jeep, but would like to see the torque curves first. I want good low end power since the jeep is a trail/rocks only toy.

I think you are going to have a hard time finding dyno sheets for stock 6.0L apps other than for the corvette, and I doubt that will be indicative of say, what a truck engine looks like. Generically? More than likely, but I'm sure the numbers are quite far off.

Only dyno sheet I found quickly:

Head over to corvettefever.com and spend some time searching, you might find a *Corvette* 6L dyno sheet.

Totally indicative of what GM (at least) is doing with their engines. Approx. 100 ft lb difference in a 5500RPM range!

stock the trucks come with what is known as "Torque Management". It uses the electronic throttle and the pcm to control the power output. IT seems everytime chevy comes out with more power they dial it back in some regards to save the drivetrain. Lots of guys who send out the PCMs to be reprogrammed say they feel a night and day difference when the "Torque Management" is removed.

even with it, my dad's 2500HD has as much if not more balls than my 1997 C2500hd, and his is an extended cab, long bed, with a contractors work cap loaded full of tools, and 4x4. Pulling a trailer up hill(with my 4000lbs S10 on it) he pulled away from me in my truck... He used to be a diehard 350 guy. Heck when he went to get a new truck in 02 and found out he couldn't get a 350 in a new chevy, he bought a Ford. After realizing that was a mistake he just gave a 6.0 2500HD a chance, he LOVES the 6L now.

I am impressed you got it to spin the tires. The half ton I drove would definitely NOT do that. I really had always looked at the 6.0 as a compromise and you've opened up my eyes a bit. I'd never own one, but at least I have a bit more knowelege and respect for the little guy. Very cool.

EDIT: And, it got me thinking too...a VERY long time ago, I drove a 8.1L crew cab, 4wd, dually and wasn't really impressed either. It might have been around 02. Did the one you did for you're buddy wake up a bit too?
Read my previous post about "Torque Management". The 1/2 tons have EVEN MORE "Torque Management" going on. Because they still have 4l60Es(65s now I think). The poor things are at the mercy of the 6.0L so Chevy dials back the power on it.

Here is an explanation of "Torque Management" in Data Stream terms:
http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123667

you can see it does things like, when you have the gas matted it tells the throttle body to only open half way to limit power going through the transmission. Thus why first step if I ever buy one of these trucks or put a LQ4/9 in something is, PCM reprogram and/or cable throttle.(besides the obvious need to get around VATS)

Here's a link to GM Powertrain's info on all 2007 Truck engines. Just scroll through and click on the link in the "plot" square for the engine you are looking at. It will pop up a PDF with the HP and TQ curves...

http://media.gm.com/us/powertrain/en/product_services/r_cars/truck%20eng%20trans.html

BTW----RYAN, Still want to see how you bolted up the engine to the frame rails....If no pics at least some description of how you did it...

With that 6.0L it will be easy to bolt on a blower. Put on a magnuson Radix supercharger and you will be in heaven! Do a search for it and you will probably find the dyno sheets you are looking fro too.

I have one of these blowers on my 2003 5.3 Siverado and I'm just a smidge under 400 HP at the wheels with 8 lbs of boost.

I am however on my third tranny.

Ryan B. My name is Joe Gisler. You responded to a post I made concerning 69 Blazer rear cap brackets and latches. However, I cannot seem to locate your post. When I click it, I get 'invalid link.
May I ask you please to contact me at [email protected]
Thanks.

Yeah this dyno graph is a very different motor then these guys are talking about. That motor is the new LS2 that is being put into the new baseline corvette, ssr roadster pickup and the new GTO and has an alluminum block. The 6.0 these fellas are speaking of is a 6-liter iron block with alluminum heads. Also my 6-OH weighed in at 750# dressed out with no oil in it so its probably tipping close to 800# with oil, coolant etc etc. (even though my motor started out with a set of iron heads........yeah they sucked) Here is a picture of my swap that I completed a year ago and recently sold about 6 months back.

I basically made a set of motor plates out of 1/4" plate to bolt to the factory clamshell mounts in my blazer. But for some reason never had a chance to get a shot of them, I remember exactly how I did them and could make up another set if need be. Anyways yeah it was a fun truck and after the MTI x-1 cam install, headers, CAI, and z06 heads, I could easily walk away from any of the newer stock mustangs gts. Man that thing was quick for a truck, pb cause it was a stripper scottsdale model but quick none the less. And I could guarentee that a 6.0 with a cam, headers and a good tune could put it on a mild big block BAD. Well enough of my rambling, I sold my blazer a while back, and miss it dearly but am moving on. Me thinks swapping a duramax into my newly acquired m1008 will do the trick. Well see, if you guys want any info or are stumped on something just let me know and I will try to help out in any way I can.

Regards,
Remington

Nice!

If anyone is interested in getting a low mileage LSX engine 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0 or even an 8.1L.
Check out our shop at pacificfab.net.
Kevin and myself can do anything from getting you an engine and reworking the harness and computer for your swap... to installing it in your vehicle as a complete turnkey setup in only a few weeks.

I think it's great looking, but I've driven a new half ton chevy with a 6.0 and it couldn't get itself out of a wet paper bag. Are you doing anything to the engine (cam, exhaust, etc.)? My point is that I really don't see the hassle with the 6.0. The mileage isn't better, is it? Wouldn't a nice 350 be easier, make more power and cost the same money (or even less)?

Correct me if I am wrong here, but GM didn't offer a 6.0L in a half ton truck. My '01 HD2500 has one and it hauls (large loads and ass)

I believe it comes in the 1500HD crewcab and in the SS trucks that were slammed on the ground. I don't know if that model even exists anymore:confused:

the SS still exists but it is 2wd nowadays for some odd reason. Its slower and ****tier than the original AWD one.

6.0Ls are available in Half Tons it is called something like the Vortec MAXX package. But that has only been availabe in 05 and 06 to my knowledge.

I was HEAVILY looking at buying a 99 with a 5.3L, auto, single cab shortbed that was slammed. Came through the dealership I work at. They wanted to much and the rear axle was about to fall apart on it. It moved pretty good though. The piece of crap rear still ripped donuts when I took it out for a long test drive.
