As a stupid high school kid I cut up the brackets that go between the engine mounts and the frame on my 6.2 diesel k5. Now I have to pull the engine out so I want to get this fixed right. I have ORD competition motor mounts that can only be used with the k5 6.2/454 brackets, so please let me know if you have some to spare and what you want for them.

Thanks

It is the piece in the picture below. Sorry, not sure what the half shell is.

They bolt to the frame and cross member and the mounts bolt to it.

Are you sure those frame pieces are different for the BBC/Diesel trucks?

I never knew them to be .

just the mount its self be it rubber or replacement insert polyurethane like energy suspension.

if that's what you need I have a pair of almost new energy suspension polys in the stock metal frames .

That's what I thought as well. I don't see a difference in the two pairs I have, one from a SBC and the other from a BBC.

I just went and looked at a 6.2 truck. A truck with a 350 and a big block truck.

I didn't measure cause the 6.2 truck and small block the engines are not out.

They don't look different to me. Not even different braces.

I think you need those brackets off any 73 to 87 pickup or any 73 to 91 burb or blazer

Far as I know the only engine requiring a different frame bracket is a 292 straight six,on the passenger side--all V8's have the same brackets, you may need to move the clam shells to a different hole to align them to the block--I never had too in the trucks I swapped a BBC in place of a SBC...6.2 is the same as the gas V8's too...chevy motor mounts 2.jpg

So they are the same and the bottom hole is just in a different position...

Well that makes it a lot easier.

I was confused because the new Ord mounts (compared to mine) have the lower middle hole for the big block/6.2 mounts.

All 3 are definitely different brackets! Attached is a copy of the page in my GM parts catalog. If you have ever replaced a sbc with a bbc in a square body without changing the pedestals, you would instantly notice how much lower in the engine compartment the bbc sits compared to a factory K30 with a bbc! Not sure what the difference is on the 6.2 because I have never personally attempted that swap, and of course the catalog does not give me specs on the brackets/pedestals themselves. I always remove factory bbc pedestals if I am scrapping K30 frames, as they make the engine sit up where it's supposed to be which also contributes to correct/better clearance for oil pans, steering linkages, and up travel of front axle. I used the 87 V body catalog for reference but they are all the same at least back to 81.

K30 frames are taller right? So the bracket would be different for that reason alone correct? Have you tried to fit one on a K10/5 frame?

I personally have not, but I have sold many sets of pedestals to those that have put them in 1/2 & 3/4 ton trucks. I do not know if they had any problems, or had to make any modifications to them to make them work. I'm guessing not though as I'm sure somebody over the years would have mentioned something to me. I would actually have to measure that portion of the frame to know if it was different or not. I actually don't think the forward portion of the frame is different, but would have to measure for sure. I have a couple of K30's torn down at home and could get a measurement tonight, and a co-worker has a 3/4 ton suburban frame here at work that I sold him that I could measure also. Hey, wait a second! I actually sold him a set of the bbc pedestals also! I will go out in the shop and check it out right now and get back!

I'm very interested to know what you find. I've been using the 1/2ton pedestals with a 454 for awhile now and I'm getting ready to put the engine back in. Having the Engine higher in the engine bay would be beneficial....

He took them home! I have a set at home, will bring them in tomorrow and compare them with the sub pedestals.

OK, In the first pic you will see mount and pedestal in 85 k20 sbc suburban. Second pic is mount and pedestal out of 84 K30 bbc. Notice how much closer the bbc mount is to the small hole in the pedestal. Much higher that the sbc!
