Hi all,
I have an 88´ 6.2 diesel k5 with a 3.08 10 bolts axle and 33" All terrain tires.
I would need to tow a car trailer with a total weight(trailer+Car) of 2500kg(5500 lb?) keeping the 33" tires.
I have got a 12 bolts axle from a 79´ Jimmy with a 3.42 ratio and i.m considering to swap it to 3.73 or 4.10,and i,m not sure what of both will be better for the 6.2 engine.

Thanks for any input.

i have a 6.2 in my m1008 and with the 456s it screams on the highway, when i took the rears out for my other truck i had a set of 4:10 from another truck. the 4:10s make it good for a trailer at a decent speed but still too much for me to use at higher highway speeds like 60 or so. my opinion 3:73s if your using it for other stuff too but 4:10s if just a tow rig... but thats really up2 u.

Rob,if your is a M1008 i suppouse that you will have a TH 350 or TH 400 tranny,it means without OD.
I have a 700r4 so maybe, with the extra shift, it can go on a decent RPM range with the 4.10s.

Regards

you are 100 percent correct i have a th400 and what u are saying should be exactly right

You probably wouldn't want to use OD when towing, so I would gear it considering you would be in D all of the time.

Off course, to use the OD when towing is not good for the 700r4.
But i not going to be towing all the time,so i also would need a decent road speed at a decent RPM range.

Thanks for the input.
