Does anyone have one? Had one? Not one they made, but one that came that way from GM. I know in the later model ones, it shows up as not an available combo. I didn't know if GM ever sold them that way.

Pretty sure that would be considered factory....

richcz28 has one. ive rode in it

Mid 80s is the best I could tell you. I've owned hundreds if not thousands of square body GM trucks in the last 30 years. Mostly parts or repairable trucks that I bought to flip so they blur together.

I have never seen a 6.2/465 combo K5 that was definitely factory...but I'm not saying they did not make one, just that it would be pretty rare. According to production numbers floating around on the web there were less than 300,000 total K5's produced over the entire time period the 6.2 was available. Only a small percentage of those had the 6.2, then on top of that I bet only a small percentage of those had the SM465.

Keep in mind that Chevy usually sells over 500,000 pickups PER YEAR were as the K5's were almost always under 40,000 per year.

The first one I had ever saw was in high school (early 90's timeframe). The mother of my girlfriend at the time had one she drove every day and got 22 or better mpg. K5's with a gas V8/SM465 have out numbered 6.2L/SM465 combo's 25:1 in my experience.

I remember Chevy was advertising the "automatic transmission option" for free in the mid to late 80's as well. That probably had a lot to do with the decline in manual transmissions in that era.

So, you ask the question and then kennyw gives you an answer. You then tell him he is wrong. Why ask the question?
