I am on my third 6.2/6.5 vehicle and have put a gear drive on every one that I have had. While it is a royal pain in the rear to get to it if you are already replacing the timing chain its not much extra work. Plus you know when you are tweaking your injection pump timing it is what you are actually putting it at and not "retarded" due to timing chain stretch.

Some nay sayers state that they are harder on the valve train but in 250,000 miles I havent had any valvetrain related issues.

Pete Jackson Builds the only gear drive available for these motors that I know of. DSG sells a rebranded Pete Jackson gear drive for about 200.00 over what you can get them for through other outlets. They are identical. I have bought both of them. (mods if this information is in violation of any rules please delete)

I will state that unless your timing chain is worn and needs replacing you wont notice any performance gains by replacing it with a gear drive Other than never having to worry about changing the timing chain again.

Not a problem here, our focus is good accurate info first. The PJ versus DSG pricing has come up before. It's good to keep that sort of info fresh though in case anyone is doing a casual search before buying a gear drive.

Thanks for the first hand review, there was debate a few months ago and your experience confirms what most of us expected from a gear drive.

ok sorry to hijack, but when is it time to replace the timing chain? every 120,000 miles?

When it wears through the timing cover? :D

Not sure on expected lifespan, but I'm pretty sure my 230,000 miles 6.2 from my Jimmy still has the original chain. I will most likely pull heads etc before it goes in the Crew cab. Adding arp studs, upgraded head haskets and gear drive, etc.
