6.2 Turbo.

The pyro gauge doesn't have the thermocouple.

Autometer Z series are good gauges. Not so sure on the others

Good info. I Cant see the pics because I'm not a member over there.

ok. After some research and talking to a few shops/people around town it sounds like the temp from running a turbo might cause problems when crawling on an old 6.2. I think I will run it non-turbo until it blows up then swap in a 6.5. No idea the current miles on my 6.2 but it sure looks old and tired. Still runs great!

So should I just skip the turbo and drive it? Concerns are that at slow crawl speeds it really would not do anything but cause problems. This is just a toy that I'm running through the rubicon/slick rocks/maybe fordice. Pros and cons for the turbo. Not pulling a trailer. Not really a go fast machine... Thoughts?

Not sure to be honest.

What low speed problems do they proclaim?

I am turboing mine just go get the power level acceptable.

I do love how my drivetrain works though NA 6.2, 700, 241. It crawls really well

At most crawling speeds it would not spool up due to rpm? Heat?

Mine is gutless, but I really like my drive train too. na 6.2, sm 465, 203/205.

While most turbines won't spool at low engine speeds (and the ones that do are rather useless at high engine speeds), I don't see how having a barely-spinning turbine is any worse than having no turbine at all. Every little bit helps, right?

I have heard similar things from people. Strangely none of them have ever had the 6.2 much less a turbo on one. There is a lot of information being spread by some self proclaimed diesel experts that I seriously question. I know the 6.2 was/is lacking on the power aspect of things, but everybody I know that has had a turbo on one has never had a complaint about putting a turbo on one, quite the opposite in fact. I am going to put a 6.5 turbo setup on mine, I absolutely refuse to buy anything from Banks. When I get around to doing it finally if you haven't done yours yet, I will let you know what my experiences are. I too will be doing primarily slow speed crawling including at Fordyce and the rubicon. But that may take a while to get my M1009 ready:sign19:

What's wrong with buying stuff from Banks? :dunno:

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. It's a very decent off the shelf package that meets the goals of many 6.2 lovers. It's not without its compromises, and price is certainly one of them.

The only Banks part I have left in my truck from a full Sidewinder kit is their exhaust manifold and crossover pipe, and even the crossover has been modified to clear an ORD steering rod. I have the Banks MHI turbo meant for the 6.9/7.3 Ford diesels, and have various complaints for their plenum, air box, and exhaust. Each of those have either been rebuilt, replaced, or modified to suit what I wanted. The Banks kit is good, but not perfect. If you have the time, piecing together your own kit is a great option, but don't worry about being satisfied with a Banks kit. You'll grin ear to ear when that turbo spools for the first time.

All that said, if anyone wants to save a few bucks, I think I still have a few Banks parts from my original kit that I'll be glad to let go of.

Last note, and someone was concerned about heat and operation at low speeds (crawling). Don't let that hinder you from a turbo, whatever the brand. At idle-1500, the engine is pretty much operating as if it were NA. Keep the fuel metering within the recommended range, and you'll be fine.

Ok. I guess I will keep moving forward on the part gathering for my turbo. Need to round up oil lines, gaskets, gauges and sensors, then build exhaust. A little more power would make it much more enjoyable to drive to the trail.
