6.2 What's it good for? Just about everything.

Dang.. I suppose a dmax would be the next shoo in for a swap because of the "GM" ness of it (cough Isuzu) and the cummins thing.. well they just dont sound the same nor do they have the rpm span these do. If your not building a race truck and want something that is stupid simple I dont see how you can beat a turbo 6.2/6.5 with a few minor mods to wake it up..

Thats the other thing everybody "wants" a racetruck or a semi truck in a 3/4 ton package.. but crys when the frames cant deal with the extra weight and start cracking..

Call me the oddball, but I've never had a problem keeping up with traffic with my 3.08s, O/D, n/a 6.2 with old injectors. I just drove through most of lower Michgan at 80MPH. Never had to downshift, even on the hills. I understand that altitude and trailers slow things down, but these rigs aren't as slow as folks think they are.

80mph! dude I need that kinda top end.. I agree though mine does 60-65 easily on flat ground, toss a decent grade 8% or so and its down to 40mph I havent turned up the pump or touched timing.. maybe I should.

ANNnd.. mines been solid for almost 3 tanks of fuel which is like 1500 miles.. so I think its fixed..

Mine slows down on hills ( suburban). But maintains 80 mph pretty decent.

I can maintain 50 on a fairly long 8% grade. It's slows down to 50 pretty quick. But stays there.

It's still a gutless wonder and I am mystified as to why I like these motors but I do

Keep in mind that our elevation ranges from 600 to 1200 feet. And I don't think I've been on much steeper than a 6 percent grade with this rig.

But the way this truck is geared means that it's just starting to hit its power band at 60mph. It's much easier to cruise at 70 than at 55. 1200RPM May be quiet, but it's hard to hold 55 up a steep grade without downshifting. For someone towing, I'd stick with more gearing.

Or a turbine. :D

Good clip. That idle didn't sound right to me - like it had a missing injector, hence the individual puffs of smoke once the other cylinders had warmed up - but the whistle sure was nice. Maybe that's just what marine engines sound like?

The passenger's grin validates what we all know - turbos make everyone happier.

Alright this might be a dumb question but how do you know when the governor kicks in? Mine revs pretty high and seems to like it vs lugging it.

Also with a manual Trans what turbo seems to still provide the mid and upper power without being super laggy? I am getting the feeling the engine does better work when revving vs keeping the rpm lower.

I've been driving the wife's Grand Cherokee all week since she is out of town (easier to haul the boys around and park), and man this thread has me itching to drive my truck.

Side note, the oil tube coming out of the bottom of the turbo is leaking oil really bad. Is there a gasket on that flange that I should have replaced?
