6.2 What's it good for? Just about everything.

Yea.. plus that Ls motor was too good to be true and as I looked at total cost it gets outa hand quick with no donor truck to pick from. I'm looking to find a holster rebuild for this he351cw now and going to maybe put the studs in the heads and stud girdle if the motor checks out..

Wowzer. I shall name this truck ping pong.

They don't all leak, at least not much. Yours has higher quality gaskets and, very cool, a one piece rear main seal. Most years of 6.2 engine had 2 chunks of rope shoved behind the rearmost bearing cap. Far from ideal.
They can be made dry, just not in stock form.
Step 1: Fel-Pro neoprene rear main seal.
Step 2: Ditch all the gaskets and use The Right Stuff instead (I sound like a shill, but hey...it works).
Step 3: Speedi-Sleeve the crank snout if it's grooved.

Haven't done step 3, and my rear main still has a tiny drip sometimes, but I am happy with Right Stuff. Not sure how fun it is to remove, I haven't needed to remove any of it yet.

Seriously.. you should be happy I didn't just pull the motor out and let it rust on the side of the house.. a good running 6.2 just sitting there dying a lonesome and worthless life..
if you think this is ping ponging you should go check out the Lucy build.. now that was ping ponging until I stuck to the beams..

Yes, I remember Lucy. When I call this truck Ping Pong it is 100% a reflection of the owner, the truck is not making any of the decisions.

I'm not sure Lucy is stable either just yet. Race truck! Not race truck! Back burnered for an actual race truck rebuild! Things appear to still be shifting about, at least schedule-wise.

Life happens, plans change. But I do think you change your mind faster than most of us. :haha:

For some reason we keep rehashing this. I feel on some level like you didn't or don't understand that most of this is funds driven, I also feel that this is sort of a criticism of my personality? Any of the guys I talk to on here know I enjoy tossing around ideas and talking about the what if, typically responsibility and reason take over after I've had some time to research it and digest the pros and cons.. just because I haven't married myself to the idea of this engine doesn't mean I am going to throw the idea out.

I would assume that a forum is a place to share ideas and plans as they change no? Regardless of the amount of time I decide to change my mind because of financial or other influence shouldn't matter and I really shouldn't have to feel like your going to come on here and give me crap. A little here and there is fine I don't care about that.
I have ADD so I really take this sort of specific criticism personally, if you don't understand my daily battles with managing things along with the multitude of distractions I already have presently (race truck) (kid has Austism) (running a business)(Lucy build) (etc) (taking a poop) (squirrel) which I have shared with you then I don't know what to tell you. So yea the bottom line is I can't afford to drop 5k on a mysterious 5.3/4l80 at the drop of a hat, and because of that and the fact this engine hasn't shown signs of failure then I would be stupid to remove it if I can spruce it up some and make it liveable.

Almost all the things I share with you guys regardless of if they're failure to start is because you all have more experience in lots of areas where I have none, that's why I put it out there. Sometimes it's just fun to think about but other times it's informational.. research driven.
So the next time you want to give me crap about changing my mind please stop and think just for a moment if it's really needed for you to point out yet again that I've changed my mind.. we all know it's documented here if you want to find out.
Sorry not trying to be combative but you started it

Thanks man! I don't mind messing around ask @bent72 hes a freaking old timer so I don't want it to sound like I'm some prick, but I do acknowledge that I do have issues making a final decision, call it paralysis by analysis..

I get bit by the same issue. Too much time to analyze, nowhere near enough money or time. Glad to hear the gravel cruncher is getting another shot after proving it's not made of glass to you.:waytogo:

I liked both of mine, and wasn't easy on either. I was impressed, just not for towing...unless it's under 3000 lbs...on flat ground...preferably in the driveway or yard...in good weather. :D

Well as part of my plan(in progress) to remove debt from my existence I have to have a vehicle to drive, this has had a lot of time in it already and money to get it driving well, which it does damn good actually even run up to 70 or so it's really smooth, loud but smooth. I try to feel the shifter for any strange vibration that might seem bad when spun up like that, it just takes it for thousands of miles now.. totally surprising..
so I'll do a couple more things to this to make it quieter, see sound deadening, a cheap as can be radio with Bluetooth for the possible phone call, got my wife one last year for 99$ with the speakers! Pioneer too!
And then the main reliability side of this like the sm465 rebuild and tcase replacement.
The turbo if the only I have is good I'll see if I can track down 6.5 parts(exhaust) to get it on there some way. Until that happens I'll run it as is. Not the most comfortable or prettiest but I love this truck as much as my others and for driving back and forth and ditching the car payment I didn't see any other way to do that without starting all over.

WTF did I do get get dragged into this squirrel chaser?!??

Oooh Boy. Here goes.

Yep, yer right. A forum like this is exactly the place to throw out ideas. It matters not whether they ever get implemented, this is an idea place. As for taking my input personally, please don't. I have never had a personal issue with you, and if I ever do you will 100% concretely know about it (because I will tell you so). I subscribe to your threads because I like hearing your ideas and I like seeing the neat stuff you do. Aside from people that I have personally met, I don't subscribe to many build threads on here. Your threads are in a special category, because I like what you are doing. Keep up the good work.

I understand making funds-based decisions. I have never owned an expensive vehicle of any sort. I am the guy who spent 5 years wearing out a set of wobbly tires he didn't like on ugly rims that EVERYONE didn't like, because he couldn't justify the funds to replace them. I get it. It's not that I'm picking on you or faulting your decision process. I am trying to add humor because otherwise this would be a frustrating place to be. It's no different than various guys who enjoy busting my chops because I just...can't...manage to get good tires on any vehicle I own (forget about matching ones, I just wanna be able to make it down the road well ). Or I can't get my turbocharger installed. Or my tranny. Or lots of other things (don't even get started on wheels! :ignore::haha:). Why? Responsibility and reason may keep me from having these things, but that doesn't mean that I won't dream, and that doesn't mean that I won't laugh about it with them. Laughing makes the frustrations more bearable. If you look through any of my threads, most of my ideas haven't panned out yet. Perhaps they never will. Personally, I'm never far from the fact that each of the trucks is an expensive, unreliable way to achieve transportation. I would be far better off selling the lot and buying one cheap 1999-era rig. So in some ways this whole hobby seems humorously absurd to me. That makes it all the merrier for the guys who love old iron (like me). :waytogo:

If it's not going to come out right, then I will stop trying to bring my brand of weird humor in this thread. It's no skin off of my nose, and the last thing I want to do is bring you down.

Cheers!

I should also point out that I genuinely do not care what you do with your rig. Regardless of rust level or engine type or transmission or anything. I will shed no tears if you tear it into pieces and sell them to the scrap yard one at a time. That will be the eventual fate of the truck anyways. It makes for good banter, but there is no seriousness in any of it. Your decisions do not have a bearing on my joy or happiness. Life is too short for me to care what happens to an internet truck 2000 miles away from me.
