My 96 Burb has a strange problem.... I have a fuel leak somewhere on the passenger side of the engine. Of course it is directly behind the turbo. So today I pulled it apart, and replaced a couple of the rubber lines that go from injector to injector, and also a glow plug was just a little loose. I put it back together, fired it up, let it run for half an hour, not a drop of fuel on the ground. I moved the truck, and the leak is back.

Any ideas???

It used to leak just once in a while, but now it's almost all the time, and sometimes it's bad.

I don't know much about the 6.5 but my 6.2 had the same issue and it was the fuel pump on the block. I don't know if the 6.5 has the same pump or not but I bet thats it.

I wish it was that easy, but the leak is further back.

Only a couple places it can leak from...

1. Rubber return lines or end caps on the injectors
2. Injection pump return line
3. Fuel filter canister (I suspect this myself...)

Does it drip down the side of the block, or is dripping off the back of the oil pan? Look close down inside the center of the engine and look to see if it is wet or dry. More than likely it'll be your fuel filter leaking.

I can see it dripping down through the wheel well, down the glow plug wires, etc. the little rubber lines were dripping, but I fixed that. Again, had it apart, fired it up, no leaks. Put it all together, and its leaking worse then ever.

New update: I had the truck running, still looking for the leak, and the truck suddenly revved by itself and the service engine light came on. Now I gotta pull codes too :angry1:

Forgot to mention, I've had it apart twice since the original post. All three times, I fire it up with no leaks, shut it off, put it together, and it leaks. Gettin really pi$$ed.

Put it back together for hopefully the last time. So far, so good. I was on the right track with the little rubber hoses, but the ones I had laying around apparently were 5/32, and it needed 1/8. The ones I had fit, I guess just not tight enough. Also there was another one that was leaking. I took it up and down the road, at full boost, WOT to build pressure and heat. So far it's bone dry and the SES light is gone:woot:

Be prepared to buy a PMD soon! It's always fun when the engine goes to WOT while you are driving it, lol!

If it does, turn the key off, it'll die!
