6.5L replacement INJECTION PUMP - where to buy?

shouldnt be.
its all weatherpac connections and the unit is sealed. most guys that relocate it do it there, and no one seems to have issues with it.

Cool.

He was wondering if there was a way to test the PMD?

yeah, hook up a new one, and if it fixes it, than that was your problem. even if its not the problem for this particular case, if he plans on keeping the truck alive it would be worth his time to relocate it. at which point its easier to buy a new one than to pull the intake and dig out the old one which was probably already compromised anyway.

It's actually mounted on top of the intake. Says it's been replaced a few times before apparently. I think it's still getting cooked.

Mounting it to the top of the hot vibrating thing is not a good spot.

But the actual key to that mounting scenario is the bottom of the pmd needs to be flush mounted maxking 100% contact to a machined surface heat sink. That's where the cooling heat transfer occurs. It not radiated to atmosphere through the outter case. The airflow is to cool the heatsink. That's where the heat has to go.

The jist of the story as I understand it is somebody before him spent some money with Kennedy Diesel. Has some upgrades and a big sticker. Woo.
Anyway, right after he got it the thing started stumbling every now and then and within a year it was dying. New PMD in stock location.
That lasted like a year and then died.
This time someone clued him into a heat sink and not putting it down under the intake manifold. Second PMD for him and they mounted it up on top like that.

I'm relaying this all to him. If the thing is water proof as was mentioned above I think I'll give him a nudge toward putting it behind the bumper.

Are any of the PMD's and relocation kits from the various makers better? Heath Diesel has a relocation kit with PMD for $400 while Kennedy Diesel has theirs for $500 and a 6' extension cable harness and some kind of fancy tune or something...

The bigger the cooling fins the better. I don't know anything about tuning a pmd. I would have never even cared to ask. If I wanted performance I wouldn't have bought a 6.5 so there ya go about that.

If a guy have a stitch of technical ability you can extend the harness yourself to.where ever you want. But really a 6' lead is.more.than enough. Front of the rad.support, or under the bumper, or front side of inner fender down low, anywhere away from the engine that gets air flow while moving is good.

If he's already got the heat sink, he can just get the harness off eBay for like $40. And buy a new pmd. There's no way to tune the pmd. The only thing I can think he means is the resistor. Which is going to a #9 where most trucks factory came with a #5ish. Nothing you would feel in difference. But if you're in there anyway it does give you a tad but more fuel than the stock resistor.

I was going to ask what those resistors did. Read about them but he never mentioned it.

He ordered a new PMD, harness, and heat sink from some place on Ebay with excellent reviews. I believe it is Pensacola Diesel from his description. Price was cheaper than any price we could find for just a PMD. Anyway, we'll see what happens.
I think I have him talked into putting it behind the bumper.
