Use your existing 205 and find a 203 to make up the doubler, effectively giving you a 4:1 reduction ratio.

2.48(tranny)x2 (torque converter)x2 (t-case)x2 5:13(R&P) = 101.7792 when in low/low/low :D

note, you'll need to find or change input gears on the cases for the doubler, if you want the strongest possible combo. Are you gonna keep the th350 or go 400?

Yeah sorry, my discription was not as detailed as it could have been. :o

i was going to stay with the 350, i can get a 400 but I dont want to make more work for myself than i allready have.

ok with a TH350 you will need to find a 27 spline NP203 which comes from behind a 203 which is pretty common setup. As for the 205 I would go 32 spline with ain input gear from a TH400 version 205 but there are a few companys that make adapters with a 27 spline innermediate shaft and you could use your case as is. You can also just buy the 32 spline input gear and bearing and have a machine shop bore out the hole on your 205 to fit the bigger gear like I had done

IMO opinion go TH400 now if you can so you don't have to rebuild a bunch of stuff later if you need the strength later on. I'm sure a th350 can be built to handle power, tires, etc but gotta figure cost of building a th350 vs a stock 400

ok that sounds good, so does anybody know what vehicles the 203 came out of so i can get one of those on my list.

fullsize chevy from the 70s vintage i believe should have a 203. The th400 version 203 and 205s are more rare than say a 208/241 but are out there. On the 203 you can swap a 32 spline input gear into w/o milling it if I recall correctly

Not trying to hijack a thread but I am gathering pars for my 14-B. And I woul like to know where I could get the detroit for that price. Around here everyone wants almost $500.

If you do end up going th-400, try to find one from a 4wd with a 'K' series case.

I spent about a grand getting my th-400 built to with stand what we do to them and that included a donor 2wd tranny that was originally behind a big block. (larger spraggs and such) They used what they could from the donor tranny to keep cost's down.
Built as tough as you can build em without spending the big coin. (so they told me)

The tranny shop guy added an extra clutch and worked it so I also have very good compression braking.

Also keep in mind, the th-350 will have a lower 1st gear than the th-400.
Don't know what your intent for gearing is but it's something to remember.
