i have been savin my gas tickets an righting down my miles on them. so i added them up today and i am getting 6 MPG in my 87 blazer that is also my DD.

Had a tune up recently? New plugs and wires cap and rotor...stuff like that?
If it is a carb truck - proper tuning of the stock Quadrajet will make a huge difference.
Make sure to run proper tire pressure on the street also...

ya i have been keeping up with that stuff. and it is TBI

Size tires, do you have a TBI spacer, 350 or 305, what type air filter, what type of oil (5w 30)? Also what grade of fuel you running? What are your gears in axles?

I get 10 mpg city and 15 on highway!

I'm getting about the same in my 91...gas is getting expensive fast...lucky i bought it for looks not economy. lol:haha:

91 tbi with 6 inch lift, 35 inch bfg mud terrains and 3.73 gears

That is pretty bad! Do you do a lot of idling? What are the specs on your truck? Do you use ethanol gas? Seemed like I got worse mileage when I used that crap years ago. I only ever buy 87 regular anymore.

I think mine gets around 10-11 and it's a 400.

yea, 6mpg means something's way out of whack. A good running carbed 350 should be able to get at least 10. TBI should be even better.

Your measurements aren't correct if your speedometer isn't dead on. Even a mileage variance of 5% is a big deal when talking high teens at best for economy.

You got to be getting better then 6mpg, did you recal your spedo for your larger tires? Or maybe your O2 sensor is bad, causing you to run too rich. Heck I'm still getting around 10mpg and I dont have OD and still running a carb.

33 inch tires, 4 inch lift, 4:11 gears, 350 engine with no tbi spacer, K&N air filter, and no codes for an o2 senser, and mid grade gas, and very little idling

Unless you changed the speedo gears in your Tcase or calibrated it the 33s and 4.10s are throwing it off and giving a bad calculation. My 37s and 4.10s kept my speedo with in a mile or two of the 31s and 3.08s.

Since then I have changed Tcases and did not swap speedo gears and mine is now about 15 MPH slow:D.

You could either change your speedo gears to the proper ones or if you have a GPS you can calculate off of that.

What shape is your 700r in? The last few months before mine blew I was knocking down 4-5mpg... she was a little slippery.

But yeah my initial thought was your odometer is off b/c of the gearing/tire change.

Two things: O2 sensor and catalytic converter.

How old are they? If more than 100k miles they are probably junk...

You should be getting way better mileage.. I am set up pretty much the same as you are except for 3.73 gears, I get 14-15 MPG average commuting to work city /highway driving. I use mid grade gas. 87-89 octaine.
