67-72 dash pics

didn't want to start a new thread & this is the most recent thread on gauges so...

I was planning on putting my gauges on pods on the 'cage. But after thinking about wasting less money, I thought I'd replace the factory gauges. So for now, I'm wondering what size gauges I'd need? Any help will be appreciated...it's just that I read 3 3/8" on Yukon Jack's dash thread and 2 3/8 (?) in another thread...Thanks.

The oil gauge is 3 3/8 for the middle hole. The large gauges (my tach and speedo) are 5" and the small ones are 2 5/8". I have a pic of the gauges in their boxes if you want all the part numbers.

Here's the pic for people who haven't seen my gauge setup.

The tach and speedo position have been switched since I screwed up and forgot the speedo cable was on the left side.

I have a very similar setup with Autometer gauges. My center hole (where you have oil pressure) is empty and the blinkers are stock aka goofy. I need to find a 3 3/8 guage to at least fill the hole but already have oil pressure. I also have a speedo that goes to 160. I'f my truck sees anything over 100 it's because it's falling off a cliff.

The electrical gauges are a lot easier to deal with. Running oil lines and capillary (sp?) lines inside the cab is a pain, and it really sucks to get your leg oiled down when you forget to hook up the line to the gauge.:o :doah:With electric gauges there is one electrical connector to remember to connect. Be prepared to spend a good 4 hours getting the gauges mounted and wired.

Do they still make the 3 5/8 oil pressure gauges? I tried to find one when I built my dash in '06 and Auto Meter told me they discontinued them. :dunno:That's why I mounted my fuel gauge to a piece of aluminum in the center hole.

I have a mechanical oil psi guage and other than the fitting where it hooks to the block I've not had any problems. The Speedo is mechanical but the rest are electric.

If it helps, Greg's pics have parts numbers on the boxes if you follow his link to the rest of the pictures.

I went with Mechanical oil and speedo, but later pulled the speedo and replaced it with the electrical version. Being able to calibrate the speedo easily with the electrical version is pretty attractive even though you have to buy the electric sender and the more expensive speedo.

When you did that (speedo sending unit) did it slow or stop the oil leaking from the transfer case? May be a positive side note.

If you've got oil leaking from the speedo cable, then it could be the x-case is overfilled, which then means the rear tranny seal is likely bad and causing fluid to leak from the tranny to the x-case. I had the same problem on mine. When I unscrewed the fill plug on the x-case, about a quart of fluid came out.

These things just seem to always leak. I dont have a seal problem between the boxes, at least not that I know of...

Mine doesn't leak there anymore after fixing the tranny seal.

An easy way to tell if the tranny seal is bad is to remove the fill plug for a sec and see if fluid comes out. Since you can only fill it up to the top of the fill plug, any extra fluid in there is coming from the tranny. It happens a lot from what I've heard from different people.

Could be more than one issue on the leak. Could be a bad rear seal on the tranny, or the gasket inside the "sleeve" for the speedo adapter could be shot. Greg found the part number on the sleeve and has pictures of it(see his photo album).

In my case, both are issues :doah:. I have the sleeve sitting on my desk, just have to install it, then find time to pull the xfercase to put in a new seal on the tranny.

This is what I just did. It was painted years ago so it looks dull but I think the new gauges turned out good.
