68 is coming along nicely

I need help ciphering the VIN of this truck, is it by chance a cab and chassis or was it a standard long bed truck?

I set the used bed on the frame today and the front two bed to frame bolts miss the frame by 2+” too wide. The two rear bed to frame bolts lined up what seems to be perfect except the bed is too far forward in my opinion. I know the cab mounts are sagging so I’m not too worried about the gap between the bed and cab. I didn’t see the donor truck so I’m not sure if there’s some bracket that the front of the bed mounts to but there isn’t a hole in the top of the frame at the front factory holes in the bed like the rear most holes in the bed, they do drop down directly into a hole in the frame In the rear most position.

On the sticker in the glovebox it says “custom c&c equip”, does that mean this truck is a cab and chassis? Would the frame be different than a standard truck with a factory bed?

If this truck was originally a c&c, I’ll change up the flat bed that was on it and keep it as I bought the truck.

Totally a different look from when you got it... I like it. I had a 68 Bucket truck one, I put a regular long bed on it & had a 8” gap so I made it into a duality longhorn. I sure miss that rig. Yours is looking great

Picked up another donor truck today…

Anyone see anything they need? The bed will go on my 68’.

The cab needs rockers, the frame is straight and clean. All the bolts on the bed and cab came out with any trouble, gotta love Colorado and the lack of rust.

I think I know the answer but, is there any value in the rear axle?

Neat truck! Rare one for sure, and amazingly clean. That Dana rear is original. I'd put a paycheck on it. Pop that cover and you'll find a detroit in there, guaranteed with how virgin the rest of that truck is. Dana is pretty good about date stamping their ring gears, maybe the carrier too will have something close to the build date of the truck. Dad has a coarse spline, semi floater D60 under his 65 C10. It's out of a 68 (chev not GMC) suburban, 1/2 ton 2wd, 396/auto with leaf springs. Boneyard find when I was a little kid. No I haven't seen em all, but anomalies like that Dana rear are factory installs.

Also, Ron is correct that 'C&C equipment' rpo Z62 is 'custom comfort and convenience group' In the dealer album/brochure and includes 'deep cushion bench seat', armrests both sides, vinyl door panels, passenger sun visor, cig lighter, and a padded dash. Didn't see another RPO for the trim around the windows or the door emblem like your truck has, maybe it's all included?? Not sure. You might've found that already but I was curious what it was. Brochure also lists the wheelbase at 127" for both a 3/4 pickup and a cab and chassis.

Oh yeah, what did Gear vendors say when you asked em about the T221 adaptor?

I haven’t asked GV about it yet, I’ll call them this week. Thanks for the info on the 60, very encouraging that it’s original.

Could use the AC parts from the orange truck to add it to the green one? Or maybe you would rather keep it original?

What does it look like under the hood?

Martin
