I have been lurking for a while and now I guess its time to post my build. :D

1969 blazer. Rust in the rockers and floor. No engine and the interior is shot.

My plans are to swap all the running gear from my 78 3/4 ton. 350, 400/205, Dana 44 front 14 bolt rear that already has the disc conversion.

Sweet. glad to see someone willing to wheel the old iron.

Are the floor board shot too? Mine was missing a lot of metal due to the cancer surgery, total loss of the rocker boxes and driver floor.

Not bad....

Did you buy that in CA? Does it have a single-wall or double-wall top? Can't tell from the photos....

'69s are rare beasts, I hope the transformation will be a respectful one. :deal:

:usaflag:

Yeah, both driver and passenger floor boards are gone.

I did buy it in CA and it does have a double wall. I also promised my wife that this build would be differnet than my 78, keeping it respectful.:hack:I was not afraied to use the sawzall on the 78.

What problems should I look for when swapping in the engine and tranny out of the 78 into the 69? 350/400/205

I do have a DIY4X 1st gen engine xmember in the mail.

Cool to have another build to watch. I can't recall, is the TH400 longer than a TH350? Did you K5 have a V8 before or a 6 cylinder? Use the V8 motor mount position and everything should fit right in. Will you be doing anything to get your rear axle centered back in the wheel wheel? The shackle flip pushes the rear axle forward a bit as you see.

I also used 78 3/4 ton gear running gear in my 70 K5. Have you hooked up your front brakes yet? I added the 78's master cylinder to my K5 to get power brakes and ended up doing new hard front brake lines - otherwise I was going to have to have adapters at the master and also where the hard lines meet the rubber front lines.

Welcome to the board and again, will be fun to watch your project.

I could use the zero rates to move the rear axle back to re-center. The ORD spring perches also have three holes drillied in them to help move the axle back. It will probabley be a combination of both.

I have read threads on here about using the 78 master cylinder and front discs. Is it just a matter of swapping Master cylinders and swaping in the 78's Dana 44, then running new lines? Seems too easy.

Thanks for the help

To use the 78's master I had to lenthen the pushrod as it wasn't long enough to attach to the pedal - there surely was a better way to do that though. Also seems I had to drill a couple holes in either the master's bracket to attach it to the firewall or I had to drill a couple holes in the firewall - the existing attachement points didn't match completely.

Does your K5 have power brakes already? I guess even if it does it was for drums all around and you would want a master cylinder designed for disk brakes.

sweet find... I mkinda get all nostalgic and remember when the Jimbuggy was all stock and full bodied.... are you gonna boat side the thing?? oh thats right "a respectful" build. nice start keep up the good work and keep the pics. flowin!

that X- member is real purdy!!

O.K. dumb ???? time what is the advantage to running one of those? Does it make it easier to work on the motor, or is it for steering clearance?

From the DIY4X site...This is a complete kit that allows you to get rid of the old school engine mounts and upgrade to a better design all the way around. Oil pan access is a snap, pull the crossmember from the frame mount boxes and drop the pan with ease....The blazer did not have an engine in it and what better time to upgrade when nothing is in the way.

cool thanks for the reply. I love tubing:D

nice start on the build! May the force be with you

Well I had a two year delay because I added a 800sq ft. addition to the house so all the funds went towards that. Had to sell the 78 as well. But it was worth it.

Now that everything is wrapped up on the house I will get back to the Blazer. I have been doing small things as I have had time I will post pics up shortly of my progress.
