'69 Blazer Build

wow, that main cap got really hot didn't it.

Need some help, how should I attack this rust pitting? Cut it out and replace it, do they make this part as a replacement? Use a rust converter product and fill it in? How would you fix it?

I have not found the perfect replacement panel for this. Called Tri-Pro and GMCPauls and they do not carry the bottom rear quarter. From what I have found there are three options.

1) Order a pickup rear quarter that will be to long. Take some out of the middle, weld it back together and replace. Note- the one that I ordered from LMC does not match the very rear under the tail light. The original is formed with a ridge on the back, the LMC panel is just flat. :doah:

2) Brothers sells the only rear quarter that will fit this. The panel is for the entire rear quarter from about axle back and just up to the bed rail. I ordered this for $149.00 thinking I will get it all in one shot. Well this panel is very nice but does not come with the rear tail lights formed in the panel at all. :doah:

3) Entire bedside like Greg72.

Hopefully somebody else will chime in with the ultimate replacement panel for the rear quarter, but until then, it looks like I'm going to be using parts of option 1 and 2.

Did some work on the firewall, here is where I started:

No heater? It's cold up there in nor cal, how you gona keep your feet warm?
On another note that ovalish hole just under the booster rod area, home made? It's not like that on mine.

Still going to run a heater, just and aftermarket one. A Danhard is what I am leaning toward. That stock heater assembly took up way too much rooom under the hood.

Are you talking about the clutch rod hole that I filled?

I like that you kept all the original grease pencil writing on the firewall....nice touch!

Originally you had talked about putting a smallblock in this build, but recently there are BBC photos... is that where you're headed now? Any plans to modify the firewall now, or are you going to wait until the motor is back from the builder and then do some "test fitting"??

Don't be discouraged if it won't just drop right in....they don't. Fortunately, it's obvious that you have the metalworking skills to get the valvecover clearance you'll need.

Yeah, I had to sell the 78 to pay for a house remodel...So I did not swap everything over as planned. Then I figured if I am going to build this thing for fun I might as well put a big block in it. It will not be my daily driver so 8 mpg is fine with me.

When I get the BB back I will start to see where I need to "adjust" the firewall to make it fit. When I get done I want it to look like it was made to be in there. No bashing...

Looking good, Where did you pick up the als liner? what did it run you a gallon? and how many gallons did you use? I will be spraying mine soon.
