Machine the transmission side where the bearing rides. I made the mistake the first time and machined where the o ring rides from the transfer case inside the coupler. I did it that way first and had the o ring pop off and I ended up with trans fluid pumping into the transfercase on the trail. You machine the opposite side where there are only splines.

I need to get a mill bit to use on the trans adapter so so I decided to rip apart the dash on the tub to get the inside ready to media blast.
I was surprised that it didn’t take too long...
Ribs are done & so am I for now

I machined the transfer case adapter & the spud adapter today. It took me more time than I thought it would...
I also got the correct output shaft from UPS

Sand blasting & paint complete...time to stone the surface to make sure it’s flat then install some seals & move on...

Got my seal & Bearing kit for the 205 today so I thought I would start on the rebuild...

Teeth all look good, no metal in the bottom so it looks to go well, should get it finished up tomorrow

Rained all day & didn’t get as much done as I wanted...

Took a long time for the paint to dry, I only got the idler gears in then realized I didn’t buy a tube of gasket maker

Today I finished up the 205 rebuild. All new bearing, seals & gaskets took more time than I thought it would but most was cleanup.

I took the day off yesterday to stretch the 3 day to a 4 day weekend.
I drove to Sparks Nevada & picked up really nice set of Doug Thorley headers...
Years ago I thought the Sanderson Headers for my Chevelle were expensive...they did not disappoint.
These are exactly the same deal. They fit the 69 chassis perfectly.
I will need to do something with the dip stick but it took longer to unpack & admire them than the 20 minutes it took to install them

Looks great! I am curious how the spark plug wires will be in relation to the headers on the right side. Only the one on the left looks worrisome to me.

I’ll have to change the angle on three plug wires...not sure if I can Just bend them or if I’ll have to replace them.

Actually after some bending & twisting this morning, it all worked out nicely

Those headers fit tight and high, should be good for ground clearance. Probably going to need some heat shield on your floor/footwell area.

Yep. Looks like the collectors point right next to the rail so I may not turn down the pipes until past the transmission.
I had planned to Rhino Coat the under of the tub so I’ll have to look at how I can do that.
I’m hoping to put the tub back on soon

I agree with this. I think that something more heat resistant than the bed liner would be good. There are some good products available for the bottom side of the floor.

yea, bed liner isn’t very heat resistant. If you really want to keep heat off, find a way to add a heat shield between the pipes and the floor. Air is the better insulator than anything else.

This is how plans get changed.
The bed liner may have been a good idea at some point but I’ll check out other opinions. Shouldn’t be too hard to fab up some heat shielding, maybe collected from pick & pull...
