70 AMX - almost yard art status

We had a cold front roll through today... low 60's
Found a sweat shirt and decided to get the AC stuff back on the car.

@tRustyK5 Didn't think you'd appreciate this in your cold snap thread.

It's all good, the cold won't last forever. :waytogo:

Are you sticking with the York for originality sake, or do you feel it's a superior compressor, or is there another reason? No 'shade' intended but it is a fairly ugly addition to an otherwise outstanding looking engine. :dunno:

The York compressor sure is a hefty and quite the looker.
With the huge parasitic losses when it's on and the quality rebuild (notice the orange high temp RTV on the lower plate).
Unfortunately it's what the car came with and with R12, cools incredibly well, so it stays.

I do have a lot of the smaller line looms and caps for the ports that are in better shape that I'll throw on once it's running.
Still every time a look at it I think a Sanden unit would be nice.

I shouldn't have gotten cocky about our weather, caught a freaking cold in 60 degree weather!!! Pretty sure with neg anything, I'd just keel over and die.

I knew you had an AMX, but somehow I missed there was a thread for it! Looks great.

That SST stuff is a bunch of bull... don't sell enough to make directions? Then don't name your shit "Perfect Fit Kit." Name it "Kind of sort of Half Assed Fit Kit," or "Expect to have to modify all the really expensive and nice looking stuff we just sold you Kit."

I'm really hoping that my T5 from Modern Driveline works out better. There's a lot less custom to mine though- AMC put a T5 behind a 258 in a Spirit, so it basically fits, I just need to adapt their different bolt pattern, and they had to relocate the shifter, and the trans mount is different from the stock AMC one.

Also, I'm jealous of your hoard. Any others we haven't seen pics of? A Rebel is on my short list of wants, a Machine would be awesome but they're out of my price range now. I passed on a 69 Javelin SST runner for stupid cheap money years ago that I still wish I would have bought. Anymore with kids and the house I have I've reached my limit. 5 cars/trucks and 1 motorcycle. Anymore and I'd be too crowded... And with kids some of those cars have to be capable of filling kid transport duties. Long story short, my Spirit is the only AMC likely to be in my stable for a while.

I'm very curious to see how the Modern Driveline kits turns out (still have to get a case as a min and do not want to fund SST again).

Really the only "custom" part to my swap was the shallow bell housing & shifter location. As you stated, the later cars had the T5 factory and the correct bell housing for the swap. Should have stuck with the AMC parts for the swap but had grandeur of 8K clutchless shifting while ordering... back to live & learn.

Followed your build here & on the AMCforum. Cool project & neat little car.

As far as the hoard, don't remember what I've posted before but most of what I have is rotting away in couple old barns or fields. Nothing really nice and nothing really worth the cost of fixing up but there's roughly 7 70' Javelins, 2 70' AMX's, a Machine, 3 68/69 AMX's, a 72 2dr Ambo, 8 or so 72/73 big cars (mostly wagons) and a few assorted shells here and there.

Most of the big cars and a Javelin or two ran when parked. Sure the fuel systems and anything with rubber is all junk now.
If I was smarter, I'd get rid of most of them and finish at least 1, but where is the fun in that?
Plus they make great shelves!!!

Some of the inside stuff...

& my favorite, the tree house.

It's a 68' 390/4speed AMX with the Go Pak & almost no other options.

That cream colored ambassador wagon would be sweet... In good shape too.

It was... been in the family since 74' or 75' and was parked mid 90's when the trans retired.
Body is probably good but everything is sun baked. Car is pretty loaded with pw/pl and such, only option that they missed was the 401. It has the standard 360/4b.

Wagons for sale?

Not yet. They are worth more in spare suspension & drivetrain parts than whole unfortunately.

I'll keep you posted. Unfortunately with the rust in the floor pans and an upcoming hand surgery it might be a couple months before I really start working toward getting it in the car. Sucks having it show up just to have to put off doing anything with it.

I like the collection.

I like just about any old big body wagon lol. Always have... I'd just as soon take a Vista cruiser over a Chevelle, Camaro, etc.

Sorry to hear about the hand surgery. Must be some sort of AMC OD jinx, I've had weird health issues since mine arrived... Never put the 2 together until now!

Yep. I've got a real soft spot for big AMC wagons. Someday I'll have one.

Me too. Have a very solid 72 Matty wagon that hopefully will get a 70 rebel front & Machine scoop one day.

The creme car used to be tan and it was mom's soccer van. We grew up in that car.
In high school I had a old TA with a 403, headers, intake, small cam, and 3.42's...the usual hs build.
Thought it was tuff at the time. This is back in the day when a LX Mustang with a 5.0 and E303 cam was considered fast.

Anyway, got in trouble street racing.
Grounded for another lifetime.
Car taken away.

Folks got tired of carting me around and told me to drive the old wagon. Turns out it was faster than the TA!

Nice azz collection by the way.:waytogo:. bunch of cool stuff there

No progress on the car but got new lights installed in the garage.
Went from 2 candle power old florescent tubes to an advertised 44k lumens.
What a difference.

It's kinda cool to see the car on all 4 again. To bad its only temporary. Back up it goes to pull the trans out again.

It's amazing how big a difference better lighting makes. Takes it from being a dingy garage to a place that's actually nice to be.

Really enjoying the new lights. Rained here all day, nice and bright in the garage.
Spent the day messing with the engine harness and ignition. 6AL mounted (thx @sweetk30 ).
Noticed that the 50 yr/old wiring is a bit brittle. Looks like a new harness is on the list.

Moved on to mocking up parts on a spare 401...
New valve covers. Nice welds look slick but don't fit!!!
None of the bolt holes line up. Looks like they will have a date with the mill.

on the plus side they will clear a stud girdle!

Not a lot of real progress. Too lazy the rebuild a Holley and picked up an Edelbrock AVS2 800 cfm carb.
Hoping to throw it on and go without having to do a lot of tuning while I sort out what ever issues pop up on the initial fire up. Always joked the Eddie carbs are for those to lazy or old to tune a Holley...turns out I was correct on that.

So far the only downer to the Edelbrock carb is the air cleaner. Have to switcht to a 3" unit. Looks kinda punny but should work.

Also took @Bent77 's advice and ordered a ProFlo4 from @folkenheath . Just makes me happy to not have to order thru Summit or Jegs to get the best deal. So barring any major catastrophes, this heap should have almost all modern day comforts barring a decent cup holder pretty soon for less than a modern V6 Camaro.

I'm always a bit skeptical opening a link you post, especially when it has hump hugger in the title.
up to 51 colors to chose from...way too much pressure.

Found a couple of these in one of the wagons.
