70 Jimmy--Rusty Rebuild

Been tinkering and just driving it every now and then. Close to 1300 miles I think.

Saginaw Bay/Lake Huron.

Horrible picture, but the dash is a little more complete now.

Picked up a radio with the sale Classic Industries had over Memorial Day weekend. Went with a Retrosound Long Beach. Way more features than I need. I couldn't mount it flush like it's supposed to be, the Terminator ECU is right behind it and the radio is actually touching it, things got real tight real fast back there.

Stuck the AC vent in there and cleaned up the stock dash pad. Pad has seen better days, has a crack and foam is pulling away from the base on the ends.

Also picked up a new shift knob. Button is hooked to the 2step limiter. Right now it's set at 3500, which I think is a little high. Once we head back to SilverLake I'll probably lower it a little after a few test hits.

Going to get some material to build a set of side panels for the back. Plan to mount atleast a pair of speakers and an amp on the inside.

Have our yearly SilverLake trip coming up this weekend. Drove it into work this morning to give it a quick wash. Gave it a quick once over last weekend. Other than an annoying wetness around the transfer case clocking ring, no real problems.

Truck got moved from its parking spot in the barn up to the house garage so I really haven't done anything with it lately other than drive it occasionally.

Little late on the trip update...

Truck ran great and didn't really have any big issues. Accidently jumped it a couple times, cruising through the directional hills and the whoops got big. The girl friend and I both agreed that it landed very well. Another time, coming down one of the big dunes and hit a ridge, rear end bounced up.

Drag strip was torn up all weekend, groomer wasn't out there at all. Only made a few passes because it was so rough. Running in 4hi on one of the passes, hit some bumps enough to unload the suspension and when the tires got traction again the clutch slipped. Apparently full throttle in 3rd gear from zero to 100% grip is too much for it. Let it cool off for awhile after that and it didn't give us any more problems.

The only picture out on the sand that I took.

Went back out to SilverLake for the day on Saturday. Girlfriend had a wedding to bartend so my buddy and I loaded the truck up for a day trip.

Few problems this time. Burned the wire for the temp gauge sending unit. Pulled that back and zip tied it to a coil.

Biggest problem was I pushed another valve cover gasket out. Not a huge deal in and of itself. But, the dripping oil landed on the header and caught fire. Luckily someone flagged us down and said something. We had noticed a puff of smoke and could smell the oil a few minutes before. A quick splash from a Gatorade bottle and it was out. No damage other than a dark spot on the header now.

I'll probably have to look into a set of vented valve covers or valley cover. We were on the rev limiter a lot (7000rpm) before it happened. I think there's too much crankcase pressure for the single 3/8 pcv valve to handle with that much sustained high rpm.
