700R-4 version 3.0

I would have to agree with the driveline shop and the info they shared with you.
There is no bushing or washer in that converter and the only bronze would be from brazing the fins if the builder made that type of upgrade.
I am out of town till next week but we can cut your converter open and inspect it in our converter shop. Hit me up next week if we can help.
Those pieces do look like brazing that peeled off don't you think?

Sometimes if the braze is too thick in the cover fins, the machinist will cut down the bowl so that the turbine doesn’t collide with the brazing material. That action produces small chips or slivers that are normally cast off in the process, but some could get left inside the cover

@Greg Ducato has the converter cut open and reports no brass. It is getting a standard rebuild.

I will proceed with re-assembly without knowing exactly what happened. I still need to flush the cooling system. Thinking that process through, I remembered buying this radiator somewhere in the 2000's - after the transmission was rebuilt. That means it's not the source of brass, but it may currently contain some.

That's got to be frustrating not knowing where it came from, its got to cast doubt when you reassemble.

You ran out of things to check?

Don't you hate it when all major subassemblies are done and there's a snap ring on the bench? It belonged on the input carrier.
I hate that, but I would hate it more if I found out later after I tried to drive it. Be glad you realized it now.

I finally did some work on this. When it's snowing every day, that takes up a lot of the free time, plus fixing the kids cars and stuff. I finally found a replacement valve body. The old one was starting to show some bore wear and I boogered it up with a broken off roll pin (most of the valve roll pins can be driven from the other side, but the TV one is blind). Nobody was stocking them and I had my first order canceled for no stock.

I moved all of the mods over, including the B&M 1-2 shift valve and TV valve mods. I always liked the compression braking this unit had and how it will jump between 1st and 2nd gear as needed (stock units pretty much need a stop to downshift.)

I'll probably pay the price for having this open on the bench for 3 months. :doah:

The new Fel-Pro blue engine oil pan gasket that I moved with me new in the box 2 or 3 times is on my freshly painted oil pan, and there's no oil on the floor for the 1st time in many years. (Yes, there's oil in it.) I always thought it was the rear main seal, which I didn't touch (because above the crank the block was bone dry).
