700r4, 205 questions.....

funny.. I just came from his site... figured if I'm doing the 205, it's the time to do the cutting brake too.... pricey... but i really like the idea of getting the cables off the back..

in looking at it, i see you have to run his flange for 109. thats fine, but what does that translate to for the driveshaft? would i be bolting up a 1350 cv? same as the front 32 you got? so that'd be 210 in flanges, and 279 for the brake...

looks like Jesse's getting at least 5 from me after new years... :haha:

The 32 spline flange i bought can be used in either the front or rear output of the 205. I Happen to be using it on the rear of my 205. You can also find a passenger drop 208/241 front output flange which is 32 spline and fits correctly (correct seal needs to be used) as well. This is what i'm using for the front of my 205.

cool... thanks.. they have the 27 spline coupler, $115.. Can see I'll be hawking eghey....

I'm just gonna go for it and build it all tough now..

Heck I think mine are 1350's, whatever stock was on the 1991 1 tons. :)

Made sense for me on the rear because it matches my 14SF u-joint. I didn't want to use any more adapter u-joints. Were I running a serious drivetrain, I'm sure the 1410 would be the way to go.

Shouldn't be a short adapter for your setup, TH350 wasn't used in front of a 205 by '85 when the short adapters came to be.

I don't know if you have decided to change the output shaft of the transmission or if you are going with the spacer, but I'd recommend the spacer, because then you don't have to tear down the transmission. Matter of fact you could use a 2WD 700r4 & take off the tailhousing, then just trim the output shaft down about 1 1/8 inches, IIRC. Put on the spacer, & bolt up the NP205, (or 203 range box for the doubler that I'm sure you'll want to go with down the road). Watch EBAY for them. I got mine for 25.00 shipped. Now I just need to get busy on the rebuild.

Later,
Buddy

well, I am completely rebuilding the trans, but am going with the stock shaft and the spacer... help out with that front driveshaft...

well since someone else popped this back up.... How did it all turn out?

I have a 700 to 205 in my 72 Burb. I had the guy that rebuilt the tranny do the install. I think he replaced the shaft in the tranny, however it bolts directly to the th350 adapter. I do have issues with the front drive shaft though. I had a local company build me a new one w/o the c/v joint and it works fine. I only have 6" springs though

It hasn't... I have most of the parts. 32 spline 205 outputs, 27 spline input, adapter with HD coupler. but I still need to pick up the fitzall spacer and rebuild the 700..

I also need to pick up a clocking ring, as I've decided to flatten it out.. new shiftrails and a twinstick are on the list too...

it's somewhat on the backburner for now, as I'm concentrating on getting the 1 tons hung under the truck first...

Subscribed.

Any pics of the parts you are using would be appreciated. Expecially since I already have the 205 and 350/205 adapter. I had been thinking of dropping a 700 into my 80 to replace the TH350. The overdrive definitely won't hurt the fuel mileage, and it will help with the longer cruises.

that spacer is only sixty bucks but they wanted 25 bucks shipping. i ordered it from a local dealer for 10 less and it was delivered next day. sweeeet.

good to hear it's only 60, I didn't know what it ran...

The guy around the corner from me is probably the biggest tranny part supplier in the state, and he is also a Fitzall dealer.. maybe I'll stop in next week...

But I have a question, if you are doing all this work, why not just find a 203 from behind a 350 and mate the 205 to that. doubler, done. Or, its big money but you could get a klune-v to adapt your 27 spline 700r4 to your 10 spline 205. even better doubler, done.

because I don't want the doubler... :p:

hard parts are acquired already, pretty simply and pretty cheap... FAR cheaper than going doubler..

And tho it wont have the best crawl ratio, it should be quite capable of handling some serious abuse..
