I am currently planning on pulling the 4wd th350 from my 85 suburban and replacing it with a 700r4 in order to be able to cruise at hwy speed below 2800 rpm this is a dual use vehicle (mostly camping and light wheeling). my question is this, I have a good 2wd 700r4 and a 4wd 700r4 with a busted case where the transfer case adapter meets the case. will the output shaft in the 2wd trans be the same length as the 4wd version or will there be swapping of internial components involved. any help is greatly appreciated as I have never torn into an auto trans before.

You'll need to swap the rear output shaft. The 2wd shafter is much longer than a 4wd shaft. This means you have to tear the tranny completely apart as the output shaft is the first thing that goes into the trans when building it.

thanks sounds like I gonna learn how to rebuild an automatic transmission :eek1:
