looking for insight on what the proper adjustment is on our rigs 1983 gmc jimmy. I was able to test drive it up to about 40 mph and shifts 1-3 were very long and hard. I just got it into the garage and checked the adjustment and it's all the way in. I pushed the d symbol in and it's pulled as close to the bracket as it will go, and I got it to click. Won't know until I test it tomorrow to see if the shift points are better, but I would like some input on what is normal on our rigs,

Cable should be pulled to its limit at wide open throttle. You can loosen it a click or two if the shifts are far too late and firm. Higher line pressure is your friend, low line pressure is a speedy trans killer.
