700r4 blowout thread *ITS DONE!* :)

we just got back from the diesel truck show/pulls and as luck would have it the tranny shop I have an appointment with Monday morning had a big booth setup there so I was able to talk to the owner and builders.
They are really cool guys and know their stuff when it comes to lifted trucks...their shop truck is a cc long bed 1 ton furd dually up on 38's.
He said that he isn't going to rebuild my 1st gen w/ 2nd gen parts (something to do w/ the valve body besides the pump swap)...that he is going to take mine out and put in a 2nd gen 700r and that monday morning we can talk hard parts depending on what I'm going to do with the truck.
Oh and he said the same thing...that w/ my 4.10's I should just leave it in 3rd but once I put 4.88's/5.13's in I can pop her into OD.

Well,

By the way you've explained it, I'm anticipating a price change from what you were originially quoted. If he's going to discuss hard parts, upgrades = $$$$. If you spend the whole $1800.00 on the tranny Avery, I hope you will listen and keep that new one in 3rd gear on the shifter and not engage the OD. Don't be foolish and think you can buy yourself time. A professional who is the builder has now told you that OD will fry with 4.10's. The burden is on you. Glad this is getting fixed. I chuckled at the post/view count. If only I could get my post to increase that fast! :haha:

Man I just read that whole thing..... my back hurts now, I need a lazy boy for threads like this.

I am happy that there is finally an ending for this drama, and hopefully Avery doesn't get screwed money-wise after all the hard parts are installed.....

Good luck to you buddy! I know what it is like to be without a truck.... I haven't driven anywhere since late june.........

haha no kidding manny...you act like I fried this one by not listening...years and years w/ 38"+ tires and 3.08's didn't help...but we'd have to talk w/ the p/o to figure out that one.
while I was there I talked to Fearless Gear...a drivetrain shop here in town that does a bunch of people's gears/lockers/etc. and he said after I get the tranny in give him a call and he can get me squared away with some 4.88's/5.13's at least in the rear for now until I have more $$$.
For the sake of the new tranny. :)

No, haha. Avery, just making sure you understand the ramifications of trying your OD with the old gears which you've been warned not to do. That's all. If you do get the rear re-geared, make sure you do NOT put it in 4wd! Okay?

Manny

yep...I don't even have the front d-shaft in it right now. After the 3/4 ton swap I didn't put it back in.

I just got back inside...got the trans cooler all mounted and ready to go.
The guy over at the tranny shop said that it'll cut costs down if I mount it before I bring it in...then when they put the new trans in he can just hook it up.
So I took off the grille, headlight bezels and fan shroud...got the cooler mounted and all situated then put the shroud back on but left the front clip stuff off so that it'll make it easier to just pop the lines on.

I'll share some details tomorrow after I drop it off.

That looks like a heavy duty roll cage, where can i get one?

Avery got that from Boulderdash Industries. Said to deflect up to 2 ton rocks and is dinosaur proof up to T-rex's. I think their number is: 1-800-ISM-ASHU.

nope not @ the park...I've been @ work all day...so no comment there.

I dropped it off this morning and he got it pulled into the stall and got to work.
They are replacing the tranny with a 2nd gen 700r4...not just rebuilding my old junk into "2nd gen" specs.
Trans-go shift kit and some changes in the 3-4 clutches are the only changes he is making...
They are also going to run the lines over to my trans cooler so that'll be all setup as well...
When they have the transfer case out they are going to drain all the fluids, replace the output seals and check the bushing (he was afraid that years and years of too short of a d-shaft may have worn out the bushing)...
Finally he is going to take apart my d-shaft and send the slip yoke over to driveline specialties to have them make me a brand new d-shaft thats the correct length (finally!) and all the same u-joints so I don't have to use that stupid s44 to 1350 joint.

Should be done tuesday night...if not then by wednesday.

Good to hear, maybe not as many upgrades as you wanted but if you follow through with the regearing maybe it'll last you a while.

yeah I will...I'm going to take the truck over to Fearless Gear and have them do gears...just have to decide if I want to go 4.88's or 5.13's...
I could live w/ 5.13's so I'm thinking that might be the best option...that way down the road if I cut my fenders or go with more lift I will be more than ready for the bigger meats...
