700R4 blues

700R4 not shifting out of 2nd

88 K5 that's stuck in 2nd gear. going down the road you can manually shift into first to get it to kick down then back to 2nd. just wont shift into 3rd or 4th gear. fluid is full and clean. kickdown cable appears to be operating properly. anyone know if the shift soleniod is the culprit? thanks

Check your govenor gear.It's located on the drivers side of the trans.It's a round,cup like cover.Pry it off and pull out the govenor gear.

If the gear is worn or broken this will cause the trans not to shift out of 2nd.

Sounds just exactly like what mine did, it's dead, time for rebuild.

i had the same problem on my 87 burb ,had a rebuild the whole tranny for 1100 beans, took it for atest drive & it did the same thing. almost drove thru his shop via the wall finally after a week it was determined the aluminum piston in the valvebody was defective, he replaced the piston in tyhe valvebody &it was fine!
