700r4 Cant find gear?!

4x4high:

1310 is what most 4x4 1/2 ton u joints are. I believe they are 3"? across and 1 1/16" cap. Unless He's got 5 lug 1/2 ton rear and/or driveline, he wont need a 1330.

1350's would be correct for the 14 bolt, with a 3 1/4"? lockup across and a 1 3/16" cap

A 1330 isnt a conversion joint, it has a cap size of a 1310, but the width of a 1350. It is equal on all 4 corners. It also used on the 5 lug rears at the diff.

The above holds true in SPICER parts, cant imagine why it would be different in other apps.

Oops, i meant 3R joint for his shaft and 1350 size for the 14ff

Thanks, how does the old ujoint come out so I can put this one in? I've never noticed.

I set the driveline in a vise to hold it, pull the clips out and use a junk socket to beat it out of there.

Isnt a 3R joint the replacement for the plastic injection CV shaft joint in the front driveline? Arent they a inner lockup style?

His rig is the plastic injected type joints and are used in both shafts so the replacement u-joint will have inside lock-up.

I didnt know they did the plastic injection on any other than the cv U joints...

interesting stuff. Kind of ignorant on their part if they did.

So I went outside and was looking at my ujoints.

The back actually looks fine, I trust you guys, but the caps on the ujoint seem to go right up to the "bumpers" or whatever they are called that stop the joint from swaying back and forth.

The piece that bolts on tho doesnt look like it fits around the caps correctly.

The front, which I replaced with another 10 bolt that has just been converted to 8lug on the other hand, there is space in the yolk on the axle when the ujoint is in there, it will sit all the way to one side, but then theres a little space on the other, do I need a new ujoint there too?

There are some pics I tried to take, my big camera couldnt get in close enough, going to try again later with my point and shoot, see if I can get better pics.

So are the pieces that bolt around the caps in the back that look like they dont fit, what should I do about that?

And the front, I assumed the ujoint would be fine, I went from a 10bolt to a 10bolt, so why is there space?

Any ideas?

One look at this pic and I can tell you that's not right....

You shouldn't have any real gap around the cap on the joint (if it's the right one). I just did a swap myself, and I had to buy the correct straps for the bigger yoke that the 14 bolt has.

Thats the strap for the 14bolt? I ordered the new ujoint that should work for my driveshaft to the 14 bolt, ill order those too.

Any idea why the ujoint in the front doesnt fit side to side?

well, what you need to know is the size of Ujoint that it takes, so measure the area that the ujoint sits in. measure across to the dogs that the caps sit against, then measure the width where the caps bolt down.

Ok so the distance cap to cap is 3 3/16 for the part I need in the driveshaft, the distance between the stoppers in the yoke is 3 1/4, with what looks to be 1inch caps, anyone ever come across this? Maybe someone has a part number or knows where I can look for one?

Cant find anything locally, any help would be great, thanks.

So they should both be 3 1/4 by 3 1/4? If the ujoint thats there now fits in my driveshaft, it doesnt feel like it has any play at all, what am I supposed to do? I imagine a 3 1/4 wont fit in there if 3 3/16 is in there now and fits like it should it seems.

when you measured the driveline side.... You measured the space between where the clips sit?

sidenote, i see your sig, you selling the k5?

Yes I measured the distance between where the clips sit. What would be like measuring from cap to cap.

No i'm not, second person to ask me that, have to specify in my sig, thats what I bought it for, doesnt look like that anymore tho, lol.
