Here we are, all things needed to swap in a 4l80-e from another auto setup

You will need
- A 4l80e (duh)
- new dipstic and tube (p/n 15687193 and 15729870 respectively)
- 3/8 metal rod for new shift linkage
- material for new t-case linkage or lengthen it somehow
- new crossmember or modified one
- lengthened torque rod
- 4l80e controller
- cooler line issue must be addressed
- shift linkage attachment point must be addressed
- exhaust modifications may also be needed

*also to note is that on a half ton flexplate, only three mounting holes are needed, but 6 are available in the one ton application, but only 3 will fit.

Orientation of cooler lines
note they are parallel to ground and perpendicular to the case.

Yeah, between the kick panel and the e-brake. There is a perfect space that runs all the way to the top where the dash is, and thats where i routed the wires.

could you take some pics of that too:D  once you started taking the 700 out , how long did it take you to get the 4L80E in and bolted up and running? did you have to do lots of test fitting or did you just bolt it up, and then address the linkage and such? ive replaced several 700's before but never to a different tranny, hows the difficulty compare?

well it'll be the weekend before I can get pics cause im at school now, but as far as difficulty, it wasnt to bad. The trans and crossmember was done in a day, but it took another day to route wires and splice into tps etc. along with making the linkages. I also added a 3 wire o2 sensor while I was at it.

One thing you will want to do before you put the trans in, is if you have a controller that came behind a diesel, the trans shop will have to work on the trans because of different shift patterns.

Overall, it is a bolt up deal, minus wiring and driveshaft stuff.

well im swapping in a diesel at the same time, and ive got the 4L80E diesel wiring harness and stand alone computer from the diesel. i believe the tranny itself was also from a diesel. if the tranny isnt from a diesel, i need to take it to a shop to have them fix the shift patterns? thats not something that the diesel computer would fix?

whenever you can get pics that would be great. i understand, im at school too and wont be home til the 13th for break.

The trans is fine, but my trans guy said if I used a diesel controller, he would get the trans o shoft for a gas motor.

How much different is the required crossmember as compared to your stock? Can the stock be easliy modified or is custom required?

I had a tall adapter on my 700 so it wouldnt work with the 4l80's short one. If already had a short one (86 up I think) Then you might be able to modify it.
