I just bought a 1989 Chevy C1500 short bed step-side. It has a mild built 350 out of an 89 K5 with 45k original miles. It has a 700r4 transmission miles unknown. I'm pretty sure it is the stock transmission that came in the truck and the odometer on the truck reads 186xxx. but the odometer does not work so therefor i do not know the actual mileage on the transmission. When the transmission shifts from 1-2 it shifts perfectly. from 2-3 it has about a one second hesitation but the engine doesn't really rev up between gears. It may rev a little but not much (I currently do not have a tachometer installed so i cannot see rpm's). And from 3-4 it shifts good. Any ideas? As i stated i do not know the actual miles on the transmission so it may just be time for a rebuild. But are there any specific things i should check before dropping $700 for a rebuild or re-manufactured transmission. Also, every now and then, i hear a slight knocking/clanging noise coming from under the truck. At first I thought it was maybe a loose flange on the exhaust but i checked all of them and they seem to be fine. I crawled under the truck while it was running and it sounds like the noise is coming from the torque converter/flywheel area. But it doesn't do it all the time. Maybe half. Any advice/knowledge will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! - Aaron
