I am getting ready to swap my NP 208 for an NP 241 in about a week. My 208 rear seal has been leaking for several months now. I decided to check it before a trip to town and fluid came gushing outta the top (fill) plug =.

Before I pull the T-case to do the swap, i'm wondering if I might have a leak at the rear of my transmission that is somehow filling up the T-case :dunno:. Have any of you guys ever had this happen before? I have no fluid, leaks, sweat or anything ahead of the output seal on my T-case...I would think if there is a leak from the trans that it would show up somewhere before that.

Any advice?

The input seal on the front of your tcase is bad allowing trans fluid to enter tcase.

May not be a bad idea to put a new on on your new case too...
Although it appears good. Just good insurance to prevent from happening.

The 241 your getting looks pretty fresh though. You can make the call when you see it

Just an fyi a 241 I a million times easier to replace the input seal, as that little ring comes off with like 4 bolts.

The 208s you have to get creative with picks and such.

And the tranny has no seal that stops fluid to the rear. The t case input seal is all that stops it :waytogo:

Thank you Brad & Adam,

I have never done a thing with either trans or T-case besides change fluids and filters, I have never had a need to split the two until now. I guess my timing on getting the 241 is right on. After this swap, the 208 and old driveshaft will be back up pieces in case I ever bust my new set up.

Brad, We are trying to leave our place around 2:00 on Friday so we will probably be in the Springs around 6 or 7ish. I'll call ya as we get closer.

Id at least inspect the input seal closely. The older the seals get, the harder they get. Mine along with 3 or 4 others ive changed have turned to damn near hard plastic after 25+ years.

If its still soft, run it, if its not, its like $10 and a couple minutes of time before you install it

Have you checked the tranny dipstick to see If it's low? I'm curious if its going to show that is low or not since you say some fluid is going into the transfercase.

It will show if the leak is bad enough. But before you notice the tranny being low, you will most likely notice tranny fluid blowing out the vent on the tcase.

i worked on a 03 Denali last night witha BW Case...

Tcase over filler....trans 2 quarts low
