700R4 Tranny Was Slipping, But Looked Good Once Opened...

I just bought a 1 ton '89 K5 Blazer, and the PO gave me the old tranny. I made a silly video whilst dismantling it, and it looked gr8. The PO SWEARS it was slipping bad on 3-4 shift, and he bought a Bowtie Overdrive to replace it, which also had a prob. the flywheel bolts came loose... And I welded it just to move it.. So I wonder how or why it could slip, and not show deterioration???
