what does clunking/rattling noise mean? the trucks an 83 k5 blazer diesel conversion(400sbc). is that a bad noise or a really expensive noise? and it does go away when engaged in gear and used to go away when it was warmed up.

thanks in advance

might bee...

Could be loose torque converter bolts,or a cracked flexplate!....among many other things..check those 2 first...

could be loose flexplate bolts also but it would keep doin it while warmed up... Check em anyways :D

If the converter bolts look good (and you cant see any other problems) get ready to replace the converter. Mine started rattling and would stop one you got up to speed (4th gear) and the lock-up engaged.

Yes, diesel converters are about twice the cost of a gasser :frown1:

I replaced it before it blew up.

Hell yeah. You're already runnin a gas motor. The only difference on a diesel torque convertor and a gas is the stall speed. The gas being taller.

Oh man, that sucks. If it's nothing simple take it down to Kevin at Modesto Transmission. Have him build you a "Bobby special" 700, like mine of course. :D Kevin knows his stuff....

well, finally got to doin the deed this last weekend. and guess what. it was the flex plate cracked around all the internal bolts and was slacking back and forth. then while removing the tranny and t-case, peeuu  . rotten egg smell. bad trans. so everyone was right. they were all bad. so i swapped in a new flexplate and replaced the trans with an s10 700r4. oops  . wrong shift pattern. so now back to the drawing board. need floor shifter. oh well.

thanks again all for the ideas

S10 700r4 have less clutches and a smaller case to fit in the smaller chassis. DO NOT USE THAT IN YOUR FULLSIZE!
