HELLO EVERYONE!! I'M NEW HERE SO THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
I HAVE A 1992 SILVERADO WITH A 700R4 AND IT WONT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR. IT HAPPENED RATHER SUDDENLY AND I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. IS IT THE TRANS ITSELF OR SOMETHING MINOR? THE FLUID IS AT THE PROPER LEVEL AND IS STILL PINKISH IN COLOR. REVERSE STILL WORKS AND THE TRUCK SEEMS TO HAVE A LOT OF POWER. I CAN RUN THE TRUCK UP TO 25 MPH OR SO AND THEN LET OFF AND COAST A WAYS AND THEN UPON PICKING UP THE THROTTLE THE RPMs GO UP AND EVENTUALLY "CATCH UP TO" THE TRANS AND ACCELERATE AGAIN. I'VE HEARD THIS IS FAIRLY COMMON AND WAS HOPING SOMEONE COULD HELP ME OUT. ANY INFO WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH

First off, turn off your cap locks.

Now, the first thing you need to do REALLY QUICK is make sure the TV cable is set properly. If this is not set properly you will destroy your trans in short order. If this happened all of a sudden make sure that either the TV cable did not come unhooked at the TBI unit or that the cable hasn't broke on you (you can give the cable a tug and see if it feels spring loaded) if it feels like it's spring loaded then the cable isn't broke but may have stretched to the point of needing a new cable.

I would guess 1 of 2 things:

1) Throttle valve is stuck. You might try disconnecting the TV cable from the throttle linkage so you can pull it out and let it "snap" back a few times. This could free the stuck valve. Do this with engine off. (If you have a line pressure gauge, you could do it with engine on and see if the pressure changes with cable pull.) Now if it is stuck, there is probably something in the valve body, which points to other problems going on in there. The last portion of the TV just floats in the valve body (no springs) so it is usually the first valve to stick when you get junk floating around.

2) Governor is broken. Sometimes they wear the teeth off the drive gear. Then as far as the tranny knows, you are always at 0MPH. The good news here is that you can remove it easily to check. Remove the little round cover near the very back of the transmission and it pulls right out.

EDIT: you could try contacting AJMBLAZER - he is in your area

This gets my vote, but I would check the TV cable also it is quick and easy.
